-CTA has 1,868 buses that operate 127 routes and 1,514 route miles. Buses make about 15,943 trips a day and serve 10,633 bus stops.
-The bus system consists of 128 routes. Buses make over 25,000 trips daily, and serve nearly 12,000 bus stops throughout the region. CTA bus routes serve communities locally, move people across town, and a number of express services are provided.
The CTA bought its first battery electric buses in 2014. The agency currently has 25 electric buses, and plans to fully electrify the 1,800-strong bus fleet by 2040.
-Red Line and Blue Line train service operates at all times (24 hours per day, every day) as well as several bus routes.
-The displayed space availability is based on the established maximum rider capacity limits (i.e. approx. 53 customers on a standard 40-foot bus, and approx. 80 customers on a 60-foot articulated bus). Please note that crowding conditions may vary throughout a route and by bus.
-The load standard is 53 passengers per bus for the 40-foot bus fleet, 79 passengers per bus for 60-foot bus fleet and 80 passengers per car for the rail fleet.
-CTA's train system is known as the 'L' (a now-official name originally short for "elevated"). Trains serve 146 stations located throughout the city and nearby suburbs, on elevated railways, in subways, or on the ground.
-Approximately 50 percent of CTA's 1878 buses are air-conditioned. And the entire rail fleet of 1150 cars is air-conditioned.
