Program Overview & Curriculum

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Skinner West Music program covers grades K-8. Most grades have music for half the year and art for half the year. Music and art classes are once a week.

Students sing with their classes and perform on concerts with their entire grade level.

Third grade students are members of Primary Chorus, which prepares and performs several 'run out' performances at public locations in Chicago during the winter holiday season.

In grades 4-6 students play recorder. In grade 6 World Music Drumming is added, and in 7th grade students are introduced to ukulele.

There are 2 performances per year, one in winter and one in spring. All students perform with their peers at least once per school year. There are sometimes extra performances for special occasions.
