Hi, I'm Ms. Van! I'm very excited to your teacher this year. This is going to be my fourth year teaching at Peterson. I know this year is going to look a lot different, but I know we will all make the best of it. I love teaching at Peterson and I'm hoping to bring the same joy and excitement to remote learning. I look forward to getting to know each of you! Here's a few things to get to know me more.
I went to college at Loyola University Chicago where I majored in Elementary Education. I loved going to school next to the lake and the opportunity to experience many different CPS schools!
The year after I graduated college I completed a program called JVC Northwest. I lived in Hays, Montana where I taught 5th grade on the Fort Belknap Native American reservation. It was a very remote, but beautiful, area. I learned a lot about Native American culture as well as the ups and downs of living in a rural community.
These are my parents and brother and sister. I love my family very much and see them often. My parents live in the suburbs where I grew up so I am able to visit them every couple of weeks and my sister lives just down the street from me. My sister is also a teacher. My brother lives in Vermont where he works trying to get people to vote.
This summer I was so lucky to be able to go to Denver, Colorado for a few weeks and stay with my cousins. It was so nice to escape Chicago for a little bit and see my family. We even got to go up into the mountains for a few days which was so beautiful. We went on some hikes and just got to enjoy the outdoors.
In my free time I love trying out new coffee shops (as seen in the picture). I also love reading and going for walks in my neighborhood and along the lake. I love baking and eating sweets, especially cookies! I just moved, so I have been enjoying setting up my new home and being able to get new decorations. I was very excited this summer to watch Hamilton the Musical on Disney + since it is my favorite musical. My favorite animal are sloths and my favorite genre of books is nonfiction.
