This week we are going to learn about Goals. We will learn what a goal is and why it is important to set goals for ourselves to accomplish. First, if you have access to a printer, please print out this Goal Setting Worksheet.
Next, listen and following along to this Goal Setting video about making positive choices.
While listening to the video, think about the positive choice that you want to practice. Using your Goal Setting worksheet, circle the positive choice you want to practice this week.
Next, make a plan. Draw a picture in the box provided to show what your positive choice will look like and sound like.

Next, if you have a printer, please print out this worksheet One Mistake I Made Was... and draw a picture of a time you made a mistake. Then, draw a picture showing what you learned from your mistake. Some ideas might be:

Welcome back from Winter Break! I hope everyone is feeling rested and refreshed :) I know it can be really hard for us to be away from our friends and classmates so this month we are going to learn about what it means to Persevere (don't give up!) when things get really hard.
First, let's watch this video What is Perseverance?
Then, watch this music video Don't Give Up.
Next, if you have access to a printer, please print out this Perseverance Puzzle handout. On each puzzle piece, you will see different perseverance strategies to try when things get tough and difficult. Please read each one carefully. ****Note: K & 1st graders might need an adult or older sibling to read the words on the puzzle pieces.
Next, color in each puzzle piece.
Next, cut out each puzzle piece with scissors.
Last, mix up the pieces and try to put the puzzle back together. If you are having a difficult time, try to use some of the strategies that are listed on the pieces so you don't give up!
This week, I have included a Winter Break Journal for you to print out if you would like! In this journal, you will find different Holidays: Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Years Eve that you can draw pictures and write about. You can draw/write about what you did to celebrate these Holidays this year (if your family celebrates them). There is also a Family time and Resolutions page that you can choose to draw and write about as well! If you'd like to start the journal today, you can print out the packet and begin coloring the cover page to get started! Have a safe and healthy Winter Break!!!

Next, we will watch this Empathy video to help us remember the definition of Empathy.
Last, you can print out this worksheet Can I Play? If you do not have a printer, you can answer this prompt: Have you ever been left out of the play group? Draw a picture to show how you felt and what you did.

Next, please complete this Empathy worksheet. If you do not have a printer, you can draw a picture and write about how you would show empathy and help a new student in your classroom that doesn't speak English.
We are going to continue learning about how we are all special and unique and that we should treat everyone equally regardless of how we look. This week, I have two different read a loud stories for you to choose from. One with a girl main character and one with a boy main character. You can choose which one you'd like to listen to, or you can listen to BOTH!

After listening to these books, think about what makes you special and unique. What do you like most about yourself?

This week we are going to continue learning about Social Awareness - where we understand that we are all special, unique and different. First we are going to watch and listen to this read a loud story Pink is for Boys.
Next, we are going to watch this video: Help Kids Learn About Gender that will teach you about gender stereotypes. This video should help you learn that it is okay to like different toys, colors, games or activities whether you are a boy or a girl!
Draw a picture of yourself playing with your favorite toys, games or activity!!
This week, we are going to learn about how we are all unique and different. We are going to start by reading the story What Makes Us Unique?
After listening to the story, please draw a picture of yourself (self-portrait) including as much detail as possible (eye, hair and skin color, favorite color for your clothes, etc). At our next live SEL class we can share our self portraits with each other!
This is the last week that we are going to talk about calming down strong feelings. Please watch this Sticks Learns How to Deal With Being Sad video. Think about when you are sad, what makes you feel better?
Next watch this Calm it Down Dance video. See if you can follow along with the dance moves!
The last video this week is this managing your emotions video. Take a look at the different pictures to see all the different ways you can cope with your feelings and calm down emotions.
Take a look at the My Coping Strategies Notebook . In here you will find many different ways to manage your emotions. Look at the pictures or read through the choices with a grown up to see the ones that you want to try and practice. If you want to save this as your own personal coping strategies notebook, go ahead and print out the select pages you want to practice (so you don't need to print all 26 pages). Then, you can color in the children and write or draw pictures of how this coping strategy helps you!
We are going to continue developing our self-awareness skills this week. We are going to explore different ways we can calm down strong emotions by watching a read a loud story and watch a few different videos.

This week, we are going to start our unit on Self-Awareness. We will begin with learning about the different feelings and emotions we all experience by listening to the read a loud story The Way I Feel.
Next, take a look at these Feelings Worksheets . If you have a printer, go ahead and print them out! If not, no worries, you can still complete the tasks below on paper.

This week, we are going to continue learning about kindness. First, please watch this Kindness Music Video
Next, you can print out this Kindness Drawing worksheet and complete the directions listed on the page (younger students can tell a caregiver their responses on the bottom)
If you do not have a printer, you can simply grab a piece of paper, pencil and crayons and draw a picture of something kind you have done in the past or something kind you can do in the future. Write or tell a caregiver how it makes you feel when you are kind and how your kindness helps the other person.
This week, we are going to learn about kindness. First, please follow along to this read a loud book: Be Kind
Next, tell a grown up at home what you can do this week to show kindness.
If you have access to a printer you can print out this Kindness Bingo sheet and see if you can complete 5 random acts of kindness in a row this week! Or, this week you can challenge yourself to compete the entire Bingo board! If you do not have a printer, you can create your own Kindness Bingo card or just simply complete to acts of kindness and view the Bingo card as a reference :)

Welcome back from Winter Break! I hope everyone is feeling rested and refreshed :) I know it can be really hard for some of us to find the motivation to continue with remote learning so I thought that for the month of January we would focus on the concept of Perseverance.
First, let's watch this video that helps us better understand the idea of Perseverance.
Now, take a look at these handouts: Instead of Giving Up, I Will and Perseverance Self-Assessment. Read through the different ways you can show perseverance this week instead of giving up! Afterwards, please take the self-assessment and read through each question and answer them honestly - to what extent they are true or false. Total up your responses and see how high you got! The goal is to have a total score of at least 20 points, but the higher the better!
This week, I have included a Winter Break Mindfulness Journal for you to print out and complete over break if you'd like! In this Journal, you will find a reading log, mood tracker, daily gratitude journal, weekly spreads that include drawing and writing prompts and a reflection. If you'd like to start the journal today, you can print out the packet and color the snowman cover page and begin the "Currently" worksheet. Have a safe and healthy Winter Break!!!

This week we are going to continue learning about how we are all unique and part of a diverse society. Sometimes, people might be mean and discriminate towards other people based on the way they look, the color of their skin, their gender, who they like, etc. We are going to take a closer look at discrimination by watching this Discrimination Explained to Kids video.
Think about what you can do to try and treat everyone equal. It's important that we don't judge people by the way they look. Remember, we are all special, different and unique :) That's what makes us a diverse society! Please complete this I am Special and Unique handout.

This week we are going to shift from Self-Awareness to Social-Awareness. We are going to begin by understanding what culture means and watch this video: Cultures of the World!
Draw a picture of yourself and your family with as much detail including your eye, hair and skin color. Also, think about your family's culture - foods your family likes eat, celebrations, Holidays, religion, etc. In your picture, include as much as you can about your family culture. We will share our pictures at our next Live SEL class :)
This is the last week that we are going to talk about calming down strong feelings. Please watch this Ways to Calm Down and Self-Regulate video.
Next, complete the "When I Felt___" worksheet. Think about the video you just watched. You will be drawing and writing about your feelings - make sure you discuss how you coped with that feeling OR you can write about what you will do next time you have this feeling. If you don't have a printer, use this link as a reference and draw and answer the questions on your own paper.
Last, please take a look at this breathing in shapes worksheet and practice the different shape breathing. Once you are finished with your breathing exercises think about a time when you would use this breathing technique.

This week, we are going to start our unit on Self-Awareness. We will begin with understanding our emotions by watching the Know Your Emotions video.
Next, please take a look at this Emotional Regulation Scale. As you will see, our feelings can range from a small glitch (in blue) all the way up to a huge problem or a catastrophe (in red).
Last, please take a look at the different examples of problems you might experience in your life on this Emotions Scale. If you have access to a printer, please print out the THIRD page of this document (that is in black and white) and write in examples of problems that you have experienced in your life that match each description. Use page 1 for a reference.

Then, you will color both pages - the pot and ingredients.
Next, you will glue or tape the kindness ingredients to the pot to create your own ‘friendship soup.’ Make sure to include your own special ingredient!

Think about what makes you unique - your race, ethnicity, and the types of family traditions that you celebrate? What types of food does your family cook? We will discuss all of the things that make us a diverse class at our next live SEL class :)
This is the last week we are going to talk about stress management. Another way to manage our stressors is to make sure we are taking care of ourselves. Please watch this Self Care in Middle School video.
In your SEL journal, write about all the different ways you can engage in self care to make sure you are feeling like your best self.
