In this unit, students will continue their work on their Service Learning Projects (SLP). They will research elections and voter-turnout, and dig into the causes of both low and high voter turnout. Then, they will plan the Action they would like to implement for their SLP. Students will also continue to dive into the foundations of our Republic, including types of authority and the principles of democracy.
In this first week of class, we will get to know each other, get comfortable with the platforms of Remote Learning, and set the framework for learning in Civics. This course is designed to empower young people to be active participants in their own lives, as well as in the wider social and political life of your communities, city, country, and the world. There is no way that empowerment can take place in a classroom that doesn't respect and listen to the voices of young people.
