Meet the teacher
Dear Mitchell Parents and Guardians,
My name is Griselda Ramirez and I would like to welcome you to the 2020 – 2021 school year at Mitchell Elementary School! I hope you had a wonderful summer and are looking forward to a new school year.
This will be my 15th year at Mitchell and I’m delighted to continue to be at a school where our staff, parents and community work together to provide rigorous academics that are culturally relevant and inclusive. I will continue to work with students who speak another language other than English. I hold a Bilingual and ESL endorsement and I have been the English Language Program Teacher (ELPT) for the last 8 years.
As the English Language Program Teacher at Mitchell, I will be working closely with your child’s teacher this year. I will collaborate with classroom teachers to provide instructional supports and differentiation. Students in grades Kindergarten to 2nd will receive native language instruction in Spanish and receive ESL supports in a small group setting. Students in grades 3rd to 8th will receive ESL support in the content areas of English Language Arts and/or Math in a small group setting.
In addition to working with students, I also work closely with our Bilingual Advisory Committee (BAC) to support families of English Learners. Our BAC is made up of parents who have a child actively receiving Bilingual/ESL services. All parents are invited to attend our meetings. The BAC strives to empower parents of English learners to participate in their student’s education and advocate for the academic, social, and cultural development of all students. I gladly welcome you and invite you to our first meeting of the year on September 24th at 8:30 a.m. in a virtual setting.
This year promises to be an exciting and challenging one and I look forward to working with you and your child. It is important that we work together as a team so as to help your child reach his/her full potential. I may send notices home, as well as call home to maintain open lines of communication and I encourage you to do the same. Estimados padres y tutores de Mitchell:
Mi nombre es Griselda Ramirez y me gustaría darle la bienvenida al año escolar 2020-2021 en la Escuela Mitchell. Espero que hayan tenido un verano maravilloso y que estén ansiosos por comenzar un nuevo año escolar.
Este será mi decimoquinto año en Mitchell y estoy encantado de seguir en una escuela donde nuestro personal, los padres y la comunidad trabajan juntos para proporcionar estudios académicos rigurosos que sean culturalmente relevantes e inclusivos. Continuaré trabajando con estudiantes que hablan otro idioma además del Inglés. Tengo una certificación Bilingüe y de ESL y he sido la maestra del programa de idioma Inglés (ELPT) durante los últimos 8 años.
Como maestra del programa de Inglés en Mitchell, trabajaré en conjunto con la maestra de su hijo(a) este año. Colaboraré con los maestros del salón de clases para brindar apoyo educativo y diferenciación. Los estudiantes de Kinder hasta segundo grado recibirán instrucción en su idioma nativo en Español y recibirán apoyo de ESL en un grupo pequeño. Los estudiantes de tercero a octavo grado recibirán apoyo de ESL en las áreas de contenido de Artes del Lenguaje y / o Matemáticas en un grupo pequeño.
Además de trabajar con los estudiantes, también trabajaré en colaboración con nuestro Comité Asesor Bilingüe (BAC) para apoyar a las familias de los estudiantes de Inglés. Nuestro BAC está formado por padres que tienen un hijo(a) que recibe activamente servicios Bilingües / ESL. Todos los padres están invitados a asistir a nuestras reuniones. El BAC se esfuerza por empoderar a los padres de los estudiantes de Inglés para que participen en la educación de sus estudiantes y abogar por el desarrollo académico, social y cultural de todos los estudiantes. Con mucho gusto les doy la bienvenida y los invito a nuestra primera reunión del año el 24 de septiembre a las 8:30 a.m. en un escenario virtual.
Este año promete ser emocionante y desafiante y espero trabajar con usted y su hijo(a). Es importante que trabajemos juntos como un equipo para ayudar a su hijo(a) a alcanzar su máximo potencial. Enviaré avisos a casa, así como llamar a casa para mantener abiertas las líneas de comunicación y los animo a hacer lo mismo. About me
Why I became a teacher: I became a teacher to help children. When I was very young I use to LOVE playing school with my sister. My sister was always the teacher and I was always the student. I didn’t mind so much being the student because I always learned new things from my sister. Then, in high school and beyond I really enjoyed tutoring other students, especially math. I found a great joy in helping others and learning from them as well.
Things I love: Spending time with my family, watching horror movies, and swimming. I also love to learn new skills such as playing the piano or sewing face masks.
Sobre mí
Por qué quise ser maestra: Estudié para ser maestra para ayudar a los niños. Cuando era muy joven, me ENCANTABA jugar a la escuela con mi hermana. Mi hermana siempre fue la maestra y yo siempre fui la estudiante. No me importaba mucho ser estudiante porque siempre aprendí cosas nuevas de mi hermana. Luego, en la escuela secundaria y más allá, realmente disfruté dando clases particulares a otros estudiantes, especialmente en matemáticas. Encontré una gran alegría al ayudar a los demás y también aprender de ellos.
Me encanta: Pasar tiempo con mi familia, ver películas de terror y nadar. También me encanta aprender nuevas habilidades como tocar el piano o coser cubre bocas.
