English IV

Welcome English IV Seniors! We hope you are ready for an exciting, productive year! The objective of this course is to help determine your role in this complex world by examining various types of literature, writing, and media.

Course Description

English IV is designed to encompass a culmination of literacy skills acquired throughout the entire school experience: reading a wide-range of texts, writing with varying purposes, speaking, listening, and using precise language, all while utilizing technology. This year, students will be assessed using the Common Core Standards for 12th graders in how they read different types of texts, their participation during discussions in class, and formal and informal assessments. These assessments include, but are not limited to: writing reflections, informal reading quizzes, and research-based performance tasks that require students to demonstrate their growth in this class throughout the school year.

A variety of literature will be covered in class throughout the school year, based on thematic units. This is to ensure that students are exposed to a broad range of materials, all while examining essential questions and goals laid out for each unit; furthermore, students are to use these materials as tools to analyze and assess their role in the world.
