Welcome 2nd Graders!

Dear Second Grade Families,

I’d like to welcome you to 2^nd grade. I am thrilled to work with you and your child this year. We are going to have an awesome time learning and growing together! I am sure we’ll have an exciting year. I am also happy to announce that Ms. Quinn will continue working with the children this year, supporting them academically to reach their full potential. The two of us will be co-teaching to help children reach their individual learning capabilities. The second graders will be doing a lot of reading and hopefully finding much joy in doing so. Our first units of study will center around narrative text in both reading and writing. I’m looking forward to hearing some of their individual experiences that they will share and develop into personal stories. In math, the focus is centered around attaining mental math strategies to ignite their ability to solve addition and subtraction problems quickly and confidently. To meet social and emotional needs, we will begin the school year building upon the relationships they already have and promoting new and unexpected ones. As we build a classroom community, we’ll discuss how to be a good friend and how to make good choices that will lead to positive outcomes for ourselves. As a result, we’ll develop a classroom compact collectively that will support individual ideas about how they want to work and play as a team.
