Mrs. Pancotto's Class
ELA/Social Studies
ELA/Social Studies
Welcome to 8th Grade!
English Language Arts (Reading)
Our ELA class will focus on a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts as well as the literacy skills that are the foundation of rich and engaging literature. Students will read through multiple genres such as realistic fiction, memoirs, and poetry. Some authors of study include Thanhha Lai, Jack London, and O'Henry.
Independent Reading/Monthly Book Reports
One foundation of our ELA class will be independent reading at the start of each class. Students will be assigned a specific genre per month (the specific novel will be student choice within that genre) and will complete a coordinating report to showcase what they have learned.
Social Studies: Civics, Government, & Oppressed GroupsÂ
Our Social Studies class this year will focus on Civics and Government. Civics is the study of the rights and responsibilities of being a good citizen and will connect to our Federal Government and Constitution. Historical content will be taught from primary and secondary sources, memoirs, photographs, and articles.
About Me
I have been teaching middle school at Smyser since 2006, and have experience teaching 7th and 8th grade, primarily in Reading, Writing, and Social Studies. I have a passion for education, and am looking forward to learning together this year!
Outside of school, I keep busy with my husband and two boys. I love reading and exploring nature.
