Good Lab Safety is important in any science class. Before students are allowed to participate in experiments, students must pass the Lab Safety Exam with an 80% or higher to receive their Student Scientist License.
Students are expected to make up work when they're absent. Students with excused absences have up to one week following their return to turn in submitted work. Students are encouraged to check in with classmates on what they miss or schedule time for after school tutoring.Β
Students can submit late work until the end of a unit. After a unit ends, late work will no longer be accepted. Missing work automatically becomes a 50%, or F, if not turned in.
Students are expected to follow these classroom guidelines:
Come to class in your School Uniform.
Be prepared for class each day.
No unauthorized electronic devices in class.
No food, gum, drinks or candy in class.
No swearing or inappropriate conversations.
Physical or verbal bullying will not be tolerated.
Respect othersβ property & spaces.
Remain in your assigned learning area.
Every minute of learning counts!
Be respectful & responsible in the hallways.
Respect the school staff and your peers.
When students do not follow the expectations shown to the left, they can expect the following consequences. These consequences are subject to change, but usually follow this order:
A restorative conversation with the student.
Complete a Reflection in the Calm Corner.
Phone call home.
Detention during lunch or afterschool.
Referral to the office/administration.
These consequences are reset every quarter. Grissom students can check on what step they're on at any time by looking at the π Classroom Consequence Tracker.
Note: Some behavior issues, such as bullying, vandalism, harassment, fighting, etc. will result in immediate referrals to the office.
For the most part, you can expect the following routine for a typical week in class. This schedule may be subject to change based on student need or upcoming holidays.
