Hello!
Welcome to our classroom community! My name is Ms. Barnes and I will be one of your child’s teachers this year. This will be my 16th year teaching at Peterson. I am so excited to be teaching your child. I love building classroom community and helping students develop a lifelong passion for learning.
I grew up in Michigan. I love living in Chicago because there is so much to see and do! I live with my two cats, Fergus and Po' Sadie. I graduated with my bachelor's degree from Northern Michigan University and my master's degree from DePaul University. Outside of school, I enjoy playing tennis.
I enjoy eating pretty much any type of Mediterranean, Indian, or Mexican food.
I love any Mo Willems book!
I enjoy beading and playing tennis.
When I was a young student, I really enjoyed both math and reading.
Twizzlers are tasty.
I am a HUGE fan of brü Coffeeworks' dark roast.
Cobalt blue.
I love cats, dogs, and bison.
One of my favorite things to do outside of Peterson is spending my evenings cherishing every moment with my kids. Watching them sprout up is one of my favorite things to do. At Peterson, there is a very diverse, unique atmosphere present. The diversity is one of my favorite things about Peterson. Students from all different parts of the world come together to learn and grow. It is such an incredible feeling to be a part of something so impactful.
I believe that each child is a unique person who needs a secure, caring, and motivating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, and socially. It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential. I feel all kids can learn – maybe not at the same rate or level, but they can definitely make progress. At Peterson, I strongly feel this goal can be accomplished.
