I am originally from Jamaica and came here when I was 14 years old. I am a wife and a mother of two girls. Things that I enjoy doing include, teaching, reading, traveling, listening to music, and visiting museums.
I started teaching at Mather in 2001. I fell in love with the school because of its diversity. During the Spring of that year I learned that there would be an Ethnic Fest that would showcase students' cultural background, as well as their ethnic food and dance. I was so excited to watch this event. But left feeling disappointed. I was disappointed for all the students of African decent who were not represented that day. Yes there were students of African heritage who participated in other clubs, but there were no African club to represent the students of African descent. This weighed heavily on me. That day I vowed that as long as I was teaching at Mather, I would ensure that our students of African descent were represented in Mather’s Ethnic Fest. The following year and every year after, our club has been a part of this school wide event. My goal is to continue to ensure that our students feel represented and proud of their heritage.
I would like to welcome you all and thank you for being a part of our club! The MAH club is here to support you. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
