Alpha Honors STEM Program Requirements
Students joining the Alpha STEM program must be:
- Accepted into Lane Tech. Please visit our main website Admissions page for further details.
- Accepted into the Lane Tech Honors Program.
- All students accepted into the Honors program are invited to join the Alpha Honors STEM program.
- Students must submit the Alpha Honors STEM Intent Form linked on the Class of 2024 tab in order to join the program by April 14, 2020.
- Passionate about the STEM fields and excited to participate in a minimum of 2 science fairs.
- While the Alpha program emphasizes all STEM fields, please note that there is a strong emphasis on science and science fair. Students will take accelerated science classes and their English and Math classes will also have an emphasis in science. Students may differentiate their STEM interests by designing and implementing a variety of different science fair projects.
- Organized and hard-working (completes assignments on time, goes above and beyond, etc.)
- In addition to the the honors curriculum, students will also be required to independently conduct science fair projects. It is imperative that a strong work-ethic is established to ensure success in all classes.
Alpha Honors STEM Program Participating Student Requirements:
The following requirements and regulations must be understood by the student and supported by the parents if the student is to participate in the Alpha program:
- It is expected for students to maintain an A or B in all Alpha Honors Science, Math, and English courses.
- It is mandatory for students to conduct scientific research their Freshmen and Sophomore year and compete in the Lane Tech science fair (and subsequent science fairs, if chosen to move on).
- It is mandatory for students to enroll in at least 1 Advanced Placement class each year.
**Students who do not meet the requirements detailed above will be dropped from the program and placed into courses that meet the students' academic needs.
