Why Immigration?
Immigration has become one of the most popular and controversial political issues. But what does that word mean? Immigration is when someone moves from one country to another country permanently. There are many reasons why people choose to move. Sometimes they are looking for safety, and other times they want better jobs, schools, or overall opportunities. The United States is a country where people from many different cultures and backgrounds live, and that helps make our country diverse. The goal is to provide age-appropriate sources for kids ages 5-13 for educators and parents to discuss the facts and get firsthand accounts on the issue.
Why Social Justice?
Social justice means that everyone should be treated fairly and have the same chances in life. This is important for immigrants, too. The immigration system has not been majorly reformed since 1986 and has been criticized for other issues. Social justice is a way for people to get involved and help guide change. As students learn about immigration and its limitations, they might also want to learn more about social justice and how others are making a difference.
