At 7:45am, I will start taking attendance. Students can sit and eat breakfast during this time.
Morning meeting is a student favorite! We begin with some form of greeting, then have a share (will be a question), then finish with an activity. Some activities are games! This is my favorite way to build our classroom community as well secretly help students with their listening and speaking skills.
After morning meeting is time to use the bathroom as well. Students will NOT be excuse once math class begins.
We begin our reading block on the rug. There, we start with uFli which is our phonics program. After, we will practice reading skills through a read-aloud. Following the read aloud and mini-lesson, we will break out into independent reading. During that time I will also meet with small groups for those students who need additional support.
We will warm up our writing skills with Correct the Sentence where we focus on sentence structure and grammar. After, I will model our mini-lesson and students will be provided with independent writing time. In that time, I will be able to meet with students to guide and assist as needed.
Calm classoom teaches students deep breathing and relaxation techniques. This time also helps reset their brain for what is next.
Math follows the same routine:
Complete "Solve & Share"
Come to rug for math video
Back to seat for "Guided Practice"
Independent practice pages and stations

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Science. This way of learning walks students through the engineering/innovation process. Students will be giving challenges that will ask them to ask questions, imagine the product, plan how they will complete the challenge, create their product with classroom materials, then reflect on what improvements can be made.
In first grade, we focus on what you can find in America and our relationships with others. Students will also have Social-Emotional Learnin (SEL) tied into lessons.
