The first step in writing for NYSJ is the preliminary topic idea form / article proposal. As we do our best to avoid overlapping topics, this proposal is absolutely necessary.
Find two or three STEM related topics that you would be willing to write about. While we do ask for 2-3 topic ideas, you will only be responsible for writing one article if you're working alone or in a pair; if you are working in a trio, you are responsible for writing two articles per publication. Most students will usually receive confirmation on their first choice topic, and will be expected to finish researching and writing the article utilizing the correct formatting by the given deadline.
Here are some examples of outlines and notes. They can be super long or super short, so we can encourage you to do whatever will help you write your first draft.
