Fall Poetry
Autumn
By Fiona
The leaves on the trees have started to fall
The warm air has turned to a chill
Seeing the bright orange colors is quite the thrill
As Autumn begins to call.
Pumpkin spice and pumpkin pie
Cozy jackets and knitted sweaters
Time to prepare for colder weather
As the Summer starts to die.
In crunchy leaves we all will lie
At the park down the street
More leaves fall at our feet
And we know that winter is nigh.
Orange-leaved trees standing so tall
Beautiful fiery hues all around
Under the tree, I’m sitting on the ground
Oh, how I love the fall.
Fall
By Roman
Summer has fallen, and fall has taken over
The start to fall, the leaves are flying
Your nose fills up with the smell of nature
The wind is blowing at the perfect waves
Various shapes of leaves with speckled slits
All in spectacular skies shower us
Shining bright suns float, singing out light.
light slashes spread through seas and trees
Halloween decorations on every house
Cool costumes: a vampire a pumpkin and even a mouse
Then in November a new holiday starts to sprout
Thanksgiving arrives, the time to spend with your loved ones
And stuff your stomach like you stuff a turkey
The season of fall contains many things
Halloween: the scary and people scaring
Thanksgiving: the holiday for caring and sharing
The leaves fall and changing
And fall the best season of all
Heaven On Earth
By Madyn (guest writer, 7th Grade)
A city of angels colored of crimson and caramel
Where shadows are comforting
And winds bring the scent of apple pie and bonfire smoke
The time when browns and orange are essential
When the cold is now seraphic
And the trees are bare
Where the bears say their goodbyes
And the arrows of birds fly past a hazel colored scene
And where lemonade turns into coffee
And green turns into brunt amber
When neighbors put up signs about a block party
Filled with coats and costumes
Where instead of picking flowers
We pick pumpkins
Where instead of getting lost in a warm sunset
You get lost in a corn maze
A laughter filled day
With a book in mind
That's fall, Heaven on earth
The Magic of Fall
By Clyde
Fall is in the newly breezy air
Leaves falling into piles everywhere
Pumpkins growing in huge groups inside of patches
All of them are sitting in tons of batches
Children dressed up as monsters and ghouls
Scavenging for Kit-Kats and Skittles
Just trying to find something sweet
Going up to every house and saying “Trick-or-Treat!”
Later on, when everything starts to become cold
When all the decorations are put away or even sold
Every family joins together for a feast
Eating pumpkin pie or goat cheese
So go outside and enjoy the weather
Eating turkey or drinking cider
Maybe dress up in a costume or two
And enjoy your magical Fall!

Imagination
By Oscar
The power that turns a twig to a gladiator’s blade
The power that turns a fall leaf to a phoenix feather
The call of beauty in the mind
Undeniably one of a kind
A spark of gold falling from the sky
A gift dropped straight from heaven
Nothing able to compare to the outstanding thought
The one whom angels flew down and brought
Frolicking in empty fields
Yet the blanks are filled in
Beautiful flowers in a meadow of eternal glory
Something with the potential to write a transcendent story
When the day is over
When the moon shines bright
Stars can align into any constellation
You just have to use your imagination.
The Forest of Fall
By Clyde
The leaves on the trees are millions of different shades of green, red, orange, and yellow
All of them scattered on the ground, crunching beneath my feet
I can feel the new chill of the wind across my face
Guess this is why they call it sweater weather
Walking through the Forest of Fall
A breeze in the air
Geese are flying south
Bears are slumping to their caves for the winter
Walking through the Forest of Fall
Does’nt look like it will be warm for a while
Seems like there are hints of snow
Almost time for hot cocoa
Just walking through the Forest of Fall
The Swamp
By Oliver
John desperately ran through the murky waters without looking back
He knew what was back there
He couldn't help but scream when he saw him
Then he tripped
he frantically tried to get up
All the thoughts of his past racing through his head
His careless childhood
His f in school
High school bullies
The graduation disaster
Getting married
Getting divorced
Running out to the swamp
And now this
John had a bad life
he saw the figure
He woke up
Alone
In his bed
But he knew
The figure was still there
Fall
By John
Fall is the time of year that comes and goes.
The rake rakes the leaves with a rustling sound,
as the kids go play in the playground with orange carmely leaves
fill the world with happiness.
The leaves fall on the ground
with a soft sound.
As they fall from a big height.
The start of fall comes with all those different pumpkin scents.
And with all of the scents and leaves falling,
some holidays will reveal themselves.

Scary Short Stories
Creak
By Liam
creak. He wakes up. creak. Now he’s confused. creak. It creeps closer. Then the whispering starts. When it starts, it never ends. Never. He gets out of bed. Sweat drips down his forehead. creak. Now it’s just down the hall. This is when he really starts to get worried. He hyperventilates. The whispering is too much. He eyes the window in his room. The window creates the only light source with the pale moonlight gleaming through it. creak. He tries to open the window. But it’s stuck shut. Almost as if it’s glued down. creak. He grunts and pulls harder. But it’s stuck shut. creak. He has to get out now. The whispering is driving him insane. He runs to his drawer and pulls a Swiss Army knife out of it. Then he stabs the window. But it doesn’t shatter. creak. Five more stabs. But it doesn’t shatter. He throws the knife on the ground in frustration. creak. He needs to know what's behind that door. But he can’t check. He just can’t bring himself to. There’s gonna be nothing there, he thinks, I’m making it all up. He finally brings himself to. creak. It must be outside his door now. His heart pounds as he slowly walks up to the door. He peeks through a crack between the door and the wall. Just black. His heart’s beating slows. He knew he was making it all up. But the whispering is still there. Something’s not right. He looks through the crack again. Nothing’s there. So he turns around. Then he sees it—glowing red eyes. Then the moonlight reveals a tall, inhuman body. Then its mouth opens. Its mouth is full of rows and rows of big, ugly teeth. But they aren’t the color of teeth. They’re the color of blood. He backs away. The monster stumbles forward. He backs away more. He hits the wall. The monster steps forward—one last scream. The red eyes get closer. And the blood-soaked teeth. Then it goes black.
creak. He wakes up. creak. Now he’s confused. creak. It gets closer. Then the whispering starts. When it starts, it never ends. Never.
Elena
By Aoife
There I was, standing eerily still the night of my seventeenth birthday, almost floating in front of her grave. I didn’t feel anything; I didn’t feel the icy wind wrestling with my hair, I didn’t feel the water racing down and hitting my face so hard, I didn’t feel the ground shift.
“Miss Williams?” I hadn’t realized that I was tapping my pencil so loudly and rapidly that it was making a hole in the desk.
“Sorry,” I reply, and return to my obsessing over that night. That night had been corrupting my mind for the past nineteen days.
What I did feel was the falling sensation when the ground literally came out from under me. Contrary to the bitter numbness that had consumed me mere seconds before, I was sobbing now, so hard that the room around me was blurred. What I could see was a hexagonal room, all of the walls covered with mirrors. It wasn’t raining anymore.
These weren’t normal mirrors, though. The person in the mirror wasn’t me. It was Elena, and she was holding a strange little box. I recognize that box. It was the music box I had given her for her fifteenth birthday. She opened it, and the same, creepy little song played. As the tune continued, a sort of vapor filled the chamber. It smelled like memories. It smelled like Elena.
My eyes closed, and from there, everything happened so fast. The vapor got thicker, and suddenly, it was gone. It was like it had never even happened. The rain had continued, and there were no holes in the ground. But I knew I hadn’t imagined that. Elena was trying to tell me something, but I just had to figure it out.
Just then, the bell rings, and I’m snapped out of this trace that has consumed me ever since that night.
The Spooky, Funny, and Annoying Pumpkin
By Clyde and Oliver
Hello, I am the spooky, funny, and annoying pumpkin, and I am here to tell you a story of one Halloween where I was carved, came to life, and maybe caused just a bit of mischief along the way.
It all started when I was just sitting in the farm, waiting for someone to pick me up and take me to their home when all of a sudden I heard a girl coming close, “this pumpkin looks perfect, I bet that I can turn it into a spooky, funny pumpkin, but I don’t want it to annoy my friends though.”
After what seemed like Forever, I arrived on a table in a nice-looking room.
“Mom, can I start carving it?,” the girl said.
“You can start,” the mother said. Then, all of a sudden, I’m all ready and dressed up for Halloween. Now I’m a jack-o-lantern with goofy eyes, nose, and a toothy grin.
The next week, I was sitting on the porch, soooo boring. People and cars just pass by, barely even glancing at me in my best. I see another person pass by, and I fly over with my amazing magic, pick up some leaves, and with a whack whack here and a whack whack there, I turn him into a leafy scarecrow. He falls over and throws off the layer of leaves on him. Then he sat there, confused about what in the world just happened.
Next, I go over to the neighbor's yard. A big dog starts barking as I fly by. He tries chasing after me. He jumps over a bench, flies over a lawnmower, and slides under a picnic table. As he chases me, he somehow ends up stuck on the roof, whining and yelping.
Lastly, as a grand finale, I go back to my house and see the girl who picked me walking with her friends. They are laughing while eating candy even though Halloween is supposed to be tomorrow. I call over all the jack-o-lanterns in the neighborhood, now there are all of us instead of just me, even though I could scare a whole crowd alone. Once the girls saw us, they all screamed and ran away in fright from the scene. Well, all of them except for one, the one who chose me.
“You don’t scare me,” the girl said,” don’t scare anyone else either.”
“Then who will I scare if that is what I was meant for?”
“You can scare everybody you want on Halloween.” The girl said.
So I waited until Halloween, and boy it was a blast! People were so scared of me that I finally felt like people noticed me all the time! I just can’t wait for next Halloween.
A Pumpkin’s Life
By Calvin
I grew up on a farm in southern Indiana, just my family and me. Grandpa tells me that one of the gods stopped making wheat and used his magical pebbles to give us life. I was always big and perfectly rounded, but cursed with humps and green spots. I loved to be creative and drew designs in the dirt with my biggest bump.
When I rolled to school at night, other pumpkins would leave me out of games. I didn’t do good with classes either, daydreaming when the teacher was talking. I considered just living as a nurse, taking care of saplings while they grow. Then my life changed forever, just because of that boy.
I was taking an early morning stroll when I saw one of those gods. He was smaller than my creator, but still had a wise aura. I stopped rolling, overcome with a feeling of insignificance. In my frozen state, I didn’t see a leaf under me. I landed on the loudest leaf possible, letting a CRACK. The god looked around, a face filled with confusion, and scanned the area. The god then came over and knelt. He moved his lips and out came a sound unfamiliar to me. He reached out his hand, and I trembled before trying to roll.
The god grabbed me, so I panicked, my head filled with stories of people who were seen. I started to sketch a message to my family, but he lifted me off the dirt before I could finish one sentence. The god looked at my tracks and froze. He was staring at my sketch and trembled. Another sound came from his mouth, this one louder and more panicked, the god dropped me Ow. My body was racked with pain, I couldn’t move, couldn't think.
We stayed there for a minute, the godling screeching, and my body badly dented. The godling screeched one more time before falling to the dirt and wrote one word, H E L P M E. I wondered what to do, should I be an inanimate object or go with my heart.
Well, I have nowhere better to go, and so I bravely sketched back ARE YOU OK?
The god froze again and sketched, LORD GIVE ME MERCY?
I considered this, giggling to myself then sketched back; NOT YOUR LORD JUST A PUMPKIN. The god ran his hands through his hair, trembling while he stared at me. The godling seemed to recover, and finally sketched “My name is William, what is your name?”
“Peter.”
“Do you live here?”
“Yes, I was born here.”
He stood up and patted me on the stem, his face no longer scared. “I will see you tomorrow then.” That was how my adventure as the smartest pumpkin on earth began.
The Candy Story
By Oliver
This is a story about me and my weirdest Halloween ever, so let's begin anyway. 'Twas the night before Halloween and all was quiet throughout the house. Not a sound was lingering, not even a mouse. I was wide awake when I heard a *BANG!* I got out of bed afraid of what could be out there, then I saw a big dark figure next to the candy and I yelled “Step back from the candy mister!” Then he noticed me and ran out the door. I watched in horror as he flew away with his rain gear and…
*POOF* I woke up.
I realized it was just a dream, but it was Halloween! I went to the kitchen and got out my milk and fruity pebbles, that is when I said ”Mom! Where is my costume?”
“In the fridge hon,” She replied.
I was confused so I got up from my seat and looked in the refrigerator.
In there I saw a giant, frozen, ugly popsicle costume.
”Ha ha, very funny mom.” I said sarcastically.
A while later I got to school in my (downright ugly) popsicle costume. Everybody laughed, pointed,
or/and gossiped about me in my suit. I was so glad when school was over and I could relax at home.
That was when my mom came and said ”I just called your friends’ mom, she wants you and your friends to trick or treat together.”
I was shocked, stunned, paralyzed, flabbergasted! Yeah, you get the idea. So me and my friends
went out on the streets trick or treating like a normal Halloween night. Then we got to the house.
That's right, the house.
So then we walked up to “the house” and rang the doorbell. A dark figure walked up
to us and took our candy!
“Get back here!” we yelled. The figure left behind a trail of Snickers, Skittles, Twizzlers, and Butterfingers.
We followed the trail of candy all the way to another house. We asked the person if they saw him.
They said no. House after house, we followed the candy, everyone not knowing where he was.
Soon enough, I arrived at my house, and I went inside, still following it.
It was a long trail and it led to my bed.
I got into bed again, then I heard a *BANG!*
It was Halloween again, and the whole thing started all over.
The end:)
Fall, but too soon
By Evelyn
Hi, I’m Charlie Winston and for me, I love fall. Fall’s great, with all the multi-colored leaves, and Halloween candy, and it’s cold but not snowing. However, school takes away about 50% of the fun level. No offense or anything, school. Speaking of school….
It was time for it. It was now the 4th day. I was chugging down orange juice until my brain froze up. Brain freeze, I thought, pushing my tongue to the roof of my mouth to lower the intensity of the freeze. I was running late, which didn’t say much. I was in 4 detentions at the end of last school year because I was tardy basically every day. I was determined to make it to school before the bell rang, but that was impossible. I pushed on my Ugg boots and ran out to the car. My mom shot me the hairy eyeball because she hates when I wear my Ugg boots on days like this. We drove in silence, except for apologizing for being late again and wearing my Ugg boots.
My mom dropped me off, and I walked toward the entrance. On the way, my feet started to seize up with…coldness? Great. I thought, with as much sarcasm as I could muster in my mind. I walked into our small classroom and set my stuff down on the desk.
This is a GREAT start. I thought and unplugged my computer from the Chromebook cart and wobbled back to my seat. My legs! They were freezing up! I sat down and took a deep breath. What was going on? My hands shivered, and my teeth clattered. I felt sick.
I ran to the bathrooms and gasped for air. I was so cold I couldn’t feel my own face. I sat on a toilet, ready to throw up, but instead, I collapsed into darkness.
I awoke in my own bed, my mom crying. I tried to speak, but my mouth felt like it was stitched up. I looked outside, expecting to see birds chirping and green-leaved trees, but I saw no birds, and red, orange, and yellow-leaved trees. WHAT?! It was the same day, only an hour after my collapse in the bathroom stall. An hour before, there were 100 birds flying around, and the leaves were as green as the grass! Why did it change? And so…soon? I felt sick once again, and my mom said I had a fever of 104. I wanted to lie down and cry.
“Why are the leaves…they changed…why did they change that fast?” I asked. I could barely speak, but I managed to squeak out that much. My mom's face looked out the window and back at me again. She had her best puzzled expression on her face, which she only uses for moments when her child (me) is acting dumb.
“What do you mean?” she asked, her puzzled expression looking even more puzzled (if that was even possible). “It looks the same as it did an hour ago. Are you feeling OK?” She placed her hand on my forehead. “Your temperature lowered in the past 5 minutes. It’s definitely cooler,” She went downstairs and brought up some honey lemon tea.
“Here,” she said. “Drink this and go to sleep. Your eyes need rest. The doctors said you were fine, despite your fever; they said it was a panic attack, and you should relax your eyes. They must be playing tricks on you.”
But how did she know that? Did the doctors tell her that, too? I took a sip of the tea and almost yelped in pain. My tongue was stinging, even though the tea was pure cold! I gasped again, for more air, and hoped the stinging would go away, but it never did. I shifted over and over in my bed, begging in my mind for the feeling to go away. It started fading, and just when I thought it would stop, I heard a voice, clear as crystal in my ear. Run away. Feel the only pain you have ever experienced. Run away. Run away. Run away… I felt sick again, and tried to run away from the voice, the pain, the guilt, the shame, the feeling. It was the pain that reminded me of fall.

Halloween Candy Recommendations/Popularity
Halloween. Costumes, trick-or-treating, candy, all the good stuff. Whether you are a Halloween fanatic, or if you are just a simple candy enjoyer, we all love a sweet treat on Halloween. The few questions we all have are, what candy is good candy? Are there even bad candies? Well, if you want to know, you came to the right place. In this edition of the Beaubien Literary Magazine, we will be focusing on the candy, specifically what is good or bad.
Let’s start with my recommendations. I would recommend getting chocolate candies. I personally really like chocolatey stuff, and I know it is popular among other people. My favorite chocolate candy is Snickers. Snickers are well known, but if you don’t know, they are peanuts, caramel, and nougat, coated in milk chocolate. If you are dairy free, or just don’t like chocolate, I would go for skittles. Skittles are colorful balls of fruity goodness, and they look like M&M’s but a bit flatter and with an s printed on them. A main difference between skittles and m&m is that Skittles have a chewy, sugary inside. Both candies have gluten free ingredients.
Now let's talk about what I do not recommend. One candy I hate, and others also hate, is black licorice. Not to be confused with red licorice, which is good. Black licorice is just depressing candy. The last jellybean. The final candy on the shelf. Bottom of the bucket candy. Nobody likes it. It’s bitter. No amount of flavor can save it. Even if you secretly love black licorice, everybody hates getting fruit on Halloween. Fruit is just sad. Getting an apple in your candy bucket is just the definition of annoying. Not only is it unpackaged, which is dangerous, no one wants fruit on a day of candy. One more bad candy is unpackaged candy or candy that looks open. It may be rare to find a tampered candy, but it is a risk. Stay safe guys!
Here are some very popular candies to pass out on Halloween! The most popular Halloween candy is Reese's cups. The well known, peanut buttery, delicious snack is always the first to go. People love it. People also love Snickers. As stated in the recommendations paragraph, it is a peanut candy with chocolate and nougat. It is a fan favorite. A classic. No Halloween bucket is complete without at least one Snickers. And maybe around 2763 Reese’s cups. Other popular candies are Skittles and M&Ms. Both little small spheres of tasty goodness. One fruity, the other chocolaty. They both come in little packs of around 5-10 candies. There are plenty more popular and tasty candies, but we can’t talk about all of them!
Onto the last part, but this time, it is the least. These are the most unpopular candies in America. Candy corn may be a fall staple, but that doesn't mean that it’s popular. People don’t like the waxy texture of it. I personally like it. The next unpopular candy is wax bottles. The juice inside is okay-ish, but the wax sometimes affects the flavor for the worse. Also, why wax? This could work with gum or hard candy as well. Why something inedible? On to the last candy. The last, as well as the least, is: black licorice! Nobody likes black licorice. Kids despise it. That one parent is in love with it. Somebody had the bright idea for a licorice jellybean. I hope you enjoyed this article. See you in the next article of Beaubien Literary Magazine!
