Alcott ES School Counseling Program Vision
The school counseling program at Alcott College Prep Elementary School envisions that every student will acquire the academic, career and personal/social skills to reach their fullest educational potential. Our students will successfully manage their lives as responsible, competent and productive citizens who respect themselves and others as they continue to be life-long learners.
Alcott ES School Counseling Mission
The mission of the Alcott College Prep Elementary School counseling department is to promote equitable access to a data-informed school counseling program. We strive to create a safe learning environment, which provides developmentally appropriate activities for all students, equipping them with the skills necessary to achieve academic, social-emotional, and career excellence. The ultimate goal of the program is for each student to graduate with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills to be lifelong learners who are able to make self-directed, goal-oriented and responsible decisions in college, career, and civic life.
What does a School Counselor do?
According to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) a school counselor is someone who supports students in the domains of academic, career, and personal/social while in school. A school counselor supports students in these domains by way of individual counseling, group counseling, and classroom guidance curriculum. A school counselor's role is also extended to encompass other roles and responsibilities to support other facets of the school.
