This short story by Carolyn Cole introduces the innocence of two friends who are entangled with the "adult happenings" of Emma's life. The story is being told from the first-person perspective of Dorian York, Emma's daughter. The daughter along with her friend, Maria would usually role play the life of the adults. Both Dory and Maria want to be like Emma because she is precious to them unlike Mrs. Robinson who’s mostly rough. They would often bicker at each other for who’ll be who. Emma had her suspicions of her husband cheating. She would look at the clock at times and they’d have fights. Her suspicions were confirmed the day the girls and Mrs. Robinson went to the skating rink with her. When they were leaving, Mrs. Robinson highlighted that her husband was at the train station with another woman. Without another word, Emma ran towards the street where she met her demise in a car accident. Mrs. Robinson wasn’t hesitant in taking up the role of Emma. She sent Maria and Dorian away so that she can have Dory’s father to herself.
