Student Textbook: Chemistry: Matter and Change, Glencoe

This course is designed to provide students with a foundational understanding of a variety of concepts within Chemistry. Through a combination of theoretical and hands-on activities, students will gain skills and understandings that will further their critical thinking capabilities and content knowledge.

The students will have opportunities to:

  • build on their scientific knowledge and understanding from and make connections between different areas of Chemistry;

  • use scientific ideas and models to explain phenomena and events;

  • understand a range of familiar applications of Chemistry;

  • carry out investigations of different types, on their own and in groups, making use of reference sources and evaluating their work;

  • communicate what they did and its significance;

  • learn how scientists work and the importance of experimental evidence supporting scientific ideas

Major units of study will include; The Atom, Nuclear Chemistry, Ionic and Covalent Bonding, The Periodic Table, Chemical Reactions, States of Matter and Earth Sciences. Through these topics we will address the appropriate portions of Nebraska Standards: Physical Science SC HS.2-5
