Activity: Going to the Zoo, in Omaha, NE
Students will be going on a trip to the zoo. During the time at the zoo students will be tasked with different thing to do throughout the day. In doing this the plan is have them develop the four domains. It is almost like a scavenger hunt during their fun trip to the zoo.
Speaking: During lunch students will order their food from the various concessions. Students will need to read the menu and order their food.
Writing: Students will write thank you cards to the administrators of their school, thanking them for allowing them to go. These letters will need to be personalized and discuss what they did during their trip.
Listening: During the lunch period students will need to listen and comprehend what the employees are saying.
Reading: Students will be required to read at lease two panels of text at each of the exhibits. Then to show that they have done this they will need to take a video with the animal and talking about then from what they have learned.
Some things about this project that make me concerned are being able to communicate clearly with the workers to get their meal. To help with this you will need to make sure that the teacher is there to help interpret and support the student. Another thing that is a concerned about this is navigating the zoo, because the map would most likely be in a language that they do not feel completely confident it.
