Welcome to the CAMFED Performance Dashboard!
This dashboard highlights key performance indicators reflecting CAMFED’s efforts in advancing girls and young women's education, economic empowerment, community leadership, and accountability.
It specifically presents a 5-year cumulative data on educational support, alumni engagement, capacity building, and program outcomes across CAMFED's operational regions — Ghana, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
EDUCATIONAL ACCESS
Providing access to education is central to CAMFED's mission of empowering girls and young women. These two graphs illustrate the trend of students (primary & secondary) supported by CAMFED and its alumni network between 2019 and 2023. It shows an initial growth in the number of students supported, rising from 141,8282 in 2019 to a peak of 250,497 in 2021. However, after 2021, there is a noticeable decline, with the number dropping to 176,731 in 2022 and further to 109,889 in 2023.
The graph of alumni network reveals the consistent growth in members (girls and young women who completed their education with CAMFED's support) and are now leading change in their communities.
Tracking the number of students supported and its alumni network over time is critical for assessing CAMFED's effectiveness in expanding educational access. It highlights both achievements and areas needing renewed focus or intervention.
ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT
CAMFED empowers young women beyond school, especially through the CAMA alumnae network. The graph shows the number of CAMFED alumnae who started businesses between 2019 and 2023. It reflects a strong upward trend between 2019 and 2022, peaking at over 36,000 businesses in 2022, before falling sharply in 2023. Tracking business startups is essential because economic empowerment is a core pillar of CAMFED's mission.
Monitoring this measure reveals how well CAMFED is equipping young women with sustainable livelihoods — central to breaking the cycle of poverty and boosting local economies through entrepreneurship.
CAPACITY BUILDING & STAFF DEVELPMENT
This measure tracks the number of Teacher Mentors and Learner guides trained, as well as students learner guides have reached and mentoring from 2019 to 2023. Teacher mentors are vital in creating supportive learning environments, while learner guides (CAMFED alumnae) provide peer mentorships in schools and entrepreneurship.
The graph shows a consistent rise in both groups from 2019 to 2021, peaking at 13,664 teacher mentors and 17,447 learner guides, followed by a slight fluctuation. Despite incomplete data for teacher mentors in 2022 and 2023, the continued increase in learner guides suggests sustained investment in human capital.
The second graph (students reached) further reflects peer-to-peer support model by leveraging its local leadership to deliver life skills and improve learning outcomes. Although COVID-19 greatly impacted this peer mentoring program in 2020, it later saw growth from 2021 to 2023 when things begin to come to normal.
Monitoring this measure demonstrates CAMFED's commitment to strengthening educational and economic ecosystems and scaling its impact through local capacity building.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
The dual metrics of Schools Partnered and Schools Implementing CAMFED program and policies between 2019 and 2023 provide a clear indicator of CAMFED's community impact in the education sector.
The number of partnered schools steadily increased from 6,853 to 9,150, indicating successful outreach and sustained institutional relationships across regions. More importantly, there was a notable acceleration in the number of schools implementing CAMFED programs and policies, which grew significantly from 2,417 in 2019 to 6,576 in 2023. Together, these measures validate CAMFED's commitment not only to forming partnerships but also to translating these partnerships into tangible educational outcomes.
