Scott Martin M.A. certified advanced Rolfer
I began an interest in the body as a child when I exercised with Jack LaLanne. Even at the age of five, I was fascinated by the possibility of doing something to effect a change in myself. I noticed that within the first year, I had modified something about my physiology. The next stage of interest in the body came through sport and play. As a child and through high school, I enjoyed the physicality and movement of sport. The out of doors became a joy and refuge for me as a young adult. I rode bicycles for transportation and enjoyment and began paddling canoes. In college I took a ballet class on a whim and became fascinated with the sophistication of movement necessary to dance and immersed myself in training. I was fortunate enough to find work in ballet companies that kept me employed for seventeen years. While dancing, I became a student of the emerging field of Somatics, an approach that values the experience of the body and the individual. I received a Master's Degree in Somatic Psychology and Education from Antioch University and soon after received training in structural integration from the Rolf Institute. Training as a Rolfer opened doors for me to work in a pain clinic and a structural medicine clinic for ten years. I taught structural bodywork for many years at the Arizona School of Massage Therapy and as an assistant to Don Van Vleet. I have had a private practice in Phoenix for over thirty years.
