School Counseling Services
FOR STUDENTS
Individual Counseling
Designed to assist one student at a time with minor social/emotional needs which may be affecting their academics. This program is also aimed to help students develop and achieve personal emotional/social, academic, and career-related goals and to provide support during the process. A proactive, preventative approach to counseling is preferred, however, counseling is also provided during and after crisis circumstances that may occur. Individual Counseling usually lasts 4-6 weeks, one time each week, depending upon the student's progress and need. These students usually refer themselves or they might be referred by parents/guardians or school staff. Referrals for counseling within our community are also available as deemed necessary for additional support.
Small Group Counseling
Designed to assist 3-5 students together with same like needs. This program is aimed to help students develop and achieve emotional/social, academic, and career-related goals and to provide tools needed for problem solving. Topics vary throughout the school year based upon the need as expressed by data, school staff, parents, and/or the students themselves. A proactive, preventative approach to counseling is preferred, however, counseling is also provided during and after crisis circumstances that may occur. Small Group Counseling usually lasts 4-6 weeks, one time each week. Written information will be sent home for parents to sign along with basic information regarding topic of discussion.
Classroom Guidance
Designed to see all students in each homeroom class at least one time each month by rotation. Lesson topics vary each month according to requirements of the Georgia Student Competencies for School Counseling Program within the three Social/Emotional, Academic, and Career domains.
