Film and Television

The Central Educational Center created the film and television program as an integral part of its offerings of career choices when it began in 2000.  It has grown into CEC Studios, which operates as the in house production company for the school. There are several regular programs and events produced during school on and off campus.

CEC Studios features two broadcast capable television studios, an editing lab, and a podcast suite. CEC Studios has state of the art equipment and technology. Our equipment rivals not only most other schools and colleges, but some TV stations and production companies as well.

Team Members gain valuable "hands-on" experience with professional film and broadcast equipment. 8th Grade Connections, Film & Video 1 and Film & Video 2 are taught by Emily High, and interns are managed by Laura Horton.

Audio, Video Technology and Film I

Over the course of 18 weeks, team members experience "hands-on" training from Mrs. High. Within the first week of classes, team members plunge "head first" into the technology of film and television and begin immediately to gain valuable experience needed for success in the industry. Curriculum is centered around becoming "good communicators" and developing a solid work ethic, a key characteristic that the industry is looking for.

During this course team members produce at least four portfolio projects, each more difficult than the previous one, adding valuable core competencies that will lead to successful employment or advanced training at a higher learning institution.

These competencies range from the simple use of a c-stand to the more advanced proficiencies in editing, camera work, and sound recording.

Audio, Video Technology and Film II

In this course, team members further advance their experience and skills and begin to specialize in that category of skills they are most interested in and work independently to produce individual portfolio works. Team members choose from areas of cinematography, lighting, editing, audio, writing and others, and work to gain valuable experience in that field.

Team Members produce iScience, Coweta Schools Game Day, CCS-TV, The Update and more for The CEC Network.

This level of Team Members often participates in the Student Production Awards, presented by the Southeast Region, National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Over the years, CEC has garnered 13 awards by the academy.

Audio, Video Technology and Film Internship

Our interns are the best of the best. They have been heavily trained to handle all kinds of productions. They work in and around the community and often get compensated for their work.

Our interns have worked with companies such as The Ferst Foundation, Mallaghan, Yamaha, The Coweta Chamber of Commerce, The Coweta County School System, The City of Newnan, local businesses and more.

All interns graduate with real world hands on experience. They have an amazing resumes and references that can accelerate their careers. They are more than ready to enhance your production with their skills.

Their experience at the CEC is truly remarkable, and very unique for high school. Being an intern is a once in a lifetime opportunity and hopefully the goal of most Team Members who take the AVTF courses.

Film & Video Program Reviews

For me, the Film and Video program gave me something to look forward to each day. I tried many other programs at CEC that I thought I would be interested in like Graphics and Engineering. But when I took Film, I became really invested in what makes many shows that are seen very regularly look so good. I've done everything and what I found most enjoyable and what catered towards what I wanted to do the most was Set Construction and Lighting. Both of these are such a crucial part of shows, because without sets and lighting you are pretty much forced to film a dull room in a house or building.  I believe I have found a career doing what I enjoy at CEC. - Jay C.

Our Facilities

STUDIO A

This is our first and largest studio, Studio A. It is 60ft x 31ft, including the prop closet and storage room. This studio currently holds the sets for three television shows that are featured on The CEC Network on YouTube.

The studio features a professional lighting grid, lighting board, jib and broadcast cameras.

STUDIO B

This is Studio B, the smallest of our Studios. It is currently 31ft x 51ft. On the back wall and right wall we have a green wall to act as a green screen and a white wall to give a clean finish to the backdrops of your video.

This studio is designed to house our temporary productions. These projects might include CEC Board Meetings, Shark Tank, The Annual Strings Concert, Debates for Political Forums or Team Member projects. Client productions are also filmed in Studio B or on location.

Control room & Podcast Studio

This is the Control Room/Podcast Studio, our newest addition. It is where everything is run in Studio A and Studio B. The room is split into two sections: One side is with the screens where the Director and his team will work on "live editing" and the other half is for Podcast production.
