Program

CEC Aviation anticipates installing a full motion flight simulator sometime March-April 2022 for team members choosing Aviation Classes

Commercial

Aviation is a licensed skill leading to many exciting, well-paying jobs and opportunities.

Aviation can also be for recreational use or for personal travel from one place to another without going through a pesky airport.

Recreational

Flight Yoke and Rudder Pedals

The goals of Central Educational Center's Aviation Program are to explore basic flight and develop the next generation of private, commercial, charter, airline and drone pilots. The full sequence of Fundamentals of Aerospace, Flights Operations 1 & 2, as well as the Unmanned Aerial Systems Course prepares CEC team members to pass the initial FAA Written Private Pilot Exam as well as the FAA Drone Pilot and even start a drone business. For those team members eighteen years of age and who have completed Fundamentals, Flight Operations 1 & 2 Courses, CEC will pay the cost of their FAA written Private Pilot Exam. Former team members completing the full sequence of aviation courses who are attending aviation universities generally find themselves several months to a year ahead of their peers at college. CEC Aviation classes emphasize hands on experiences with realistic flight simulators that are used to learn basic flight maneuvers and then more advanced commercial and military aircraft are flown in Flight Operations Classes. Team Members begin by using the trainer Cessna 172 Skyhawk in the Fundamentals Course, and fly more powerful, fast, propeller driven aircraft once they demonstrate proficiency with the Cessna 172 and graduate to various jet aircraft in the Flight Operations Courses.

Central Educational Center

Central Educational Center (CEC) has four aviation classes which are taught by Dr. Dave Whittington.

Dr. Whittington

Dr. Dave Whittington has always had a passion for aviation early on, occasionally taking the controls flying with his father and family during business trips over summers, discussing and servicing the aircraft with the company pilot during weekend trips. He began teaching in 2002 after a career in business and a tour in the U.S. Army. He holds a FAA Drone Pilot License and is currently working on his FAA Private Pilot License.

Intro to Fundamentals of Aerospace 1

Fundamentals of Aerospace is the required prerequisite semester course at Central Educational Center that is available to Eighth Grade College and Career team members and high school team members. Fundamentals of Aerospace is required before the Flight Ops Courses. Fundamentals of Aerospace is an introductory class to introduce the team members to the world of aviation. This course is split into 3 modules which include Introduction to Flight, Aircraft Systems and Airports, and Air Spaces. Team members learn how to use and understand the phonetic alphabet.

Intro to Fundamentals of Aerospace 2

The second part of the semester course, Fundamentals of Aerospace, encompasses Radio Communications, Aircraft Parts, Basic Aerodynamics, Flight Controls and Instruments, Airport Signage and Air Traffic Control communications (ATC). In addition, team members begin training for taxi and flight simulator missions. Guest speakers will visit and share information on their careers in the aerospace industry to educate team members on the many of the diverse jobs in the world of aviation.

Fundamentals of Aerospace

Fundamentals Of Aerospace sequence is the Introductory Aerospace course and is required as a prerequisite before taking any other Aviation Course at Central Educational Center. The Fundamentals semester provides team members with a strong basic background of entry-level aeronautical knowledge. Team members begin preparation to pass the written portion of the FAA Private Pilot and continued in the Flight Operations Courses or The FAA Drone Pilot Examination if they so desire.

Flight Operations 1

Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Aerospace Semester. Flight Operations 1 is the second in a 3-course sequence at Central Educational Center designed to prepare team members for the FAA Private Pilot written exam. The course covers the following topics: Advanced Flight Computer (E6B) Advanced Airspace & Airports, Navigation-Pilotage & Dead Reckoning, Radio Communications, Flight Planning, Weight and Balance and Computations. In this course team members may fly a variety of aircraft; anything from a Boeing 747 airliner to an F-16 Fighter Aircraft to a B-52 Bomber to mention a few.

Flight Operations 2

Prerequisite: Flight Operations I. Flight Operations 2 is the third part of a course at Central Educational Center sequence designed to prepare team members for the FAA Private Pilot written exam, and other career fields in the Aerospace industry. This course covers the following topics: Advanced Aviation; Advanced Navigation; Aviation Physiology; Aeronautical Decision Making (ADM); and, Human Factors in Aerospace. Contacts with the aviation and drone industry are maintained for team members interested in an aviation related career. Various types of jet aircraft continue to be flown on simulators.
