Western Coventry Elementary School Library Media Center Service Policy

The Western Coventry Elementary School Library Media Center serves a learning community of 400 students in kindergarten through fifth grades and 40 staff members. The library media center has a fixed schedule of classes three days a week, Wednesday - Friday, 8:30 am - 3:00 pm . It is open for research, book selection, reference assistance and readers’ advisory. Materials are loaned for a period of one week and they may be renewed if they are not on hold for another patron. The library media specialist submits interlibrary loan ( ILL) requests on behalf of students and staff. The reference and professional collections are restricted to library use only.

In addition to servicing the Western Coventry Elementary School learning community through the resources in our own library media center, we also provide for resource-sharing with other institutions through membership in RILINK and ILL. This sharing is promoted among library media center users through instruction in ILL procedures. A library media specialist is also available to assist with ILL procedures.

Service to families is promoted through communication about the importance of libraries and the importance of developing strong information literacy skills.
