What We Do:
inform parents about special education issues and encourage their support
share information on state and federal education issues
sponsor a variety of training courses in conjunction with several agencies
provide a forum for parent information and support
act as a local resource for families with concerns about their child's educational needs

Final SELAC Meeting of 2024-2025 School year, to discuss open positions, planning for events/meetings of 2025-2026 school year.
Attendees: Renee Smith, Samara Yelle, Brian Tse, Carissa Abbey
1. Open positions - Additional members to committee will help alleviate the work for each existing member. Open positions include co-chair, treasurer, secretary.
-Announcement made that Karen Haskell will step down as secretary, as her daughter will be moving to another school.
-Brian Tse will be the new co-chair, Samara Yelle will be the new treasurer, and Carissa Abbey is interested in secretary position (to be validated)
2. Suggestions for 2025-2026 school year topics/guest speakers. These topics could include transitions to adulthood, kindergarten transitions, FIEP, color run, etc.
-The list of meetings has been agreed upon for 2025-2026 school year:
-Special Needs Trusts – October/November
-Paint & Coffee social fundraiser (find out if we can do this) Christmas or Valietines Day couple – December/February
-Summer activities and Camps discussion and resources (March)
-Transition to Adulthood programs (May)
-There were further discussions about many other activities we could sponsor and/or host. We do need to become more involved in the community, attending open houses, offer to post a table near lost and found and promote SELAC as well as help with lost and found items, Halloween Trunk or Treats, pushing Challenger sports and other Unified sports programs.
-Other suggestions such as a adaptability toy drive (money, gift cards, or adaptable toys- teddy bears with ear pieces, wiggle seats, elastic chair bands, chewy necklaces, knit wheelchair socks, gtube pocket clothes – shop at Lakeshore or sensory child store) for children with disabilities, setting up display at a local restaurant (OTD) or community center.
-Sponsoring a sensory friendly movie night
