VAASA is a peer leadership program in which high school athletes pledge to remain drug and alcohol free. The athletes are trained to address younger students as positive role models, to educate them about the dangers of substance use and to dispel the myth that not everyone uses drugs and alcohol to be cool or fit in.
To be accepted into VAASA students are to fill out an application in the beginning of the school year followed by an interview with CHS's VAASA Advisor/Student Assistance Counselor, Lauren Cone. By seeking out this role the student is agreeing to be held to a higher standard than most.
The following values are agreed upon but not limited to: Keeping a positive attitude, being kind, respectful and trustworthy, keeping a good academic standing, making responsible choices, striving for their personal best and encouraging others to do the same.
