I grew up living in many different states and spent time being homeschooled, at public school, and eventually graduating from a private high school in Connecticut. I attended Grove City College, where I earned a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Communication Studies. After a year of leadership development through the Fellows Initiative out of Pittsburgh, I taught fifth grade at Dominion Christian School in Oakton, VA.
While teaching wasn't necessarily the career path I expected to follow, I found that I was gifted at it and enjoyed it. Connecting with students on an individual level and partnering with their parents were the aspects I cared most about, and feedback showed that these were my strengths. After a few years of teaching there, I moved to Charlottesville to marry my wife Emily and begin teaching at The Covenant School.
In 2023, I made the transition from classroom teacher to College Advisor. College advising emphasizes the aspects of teaching that I most enjoy: working with students to discover their interests and passions in order to better prepare for the future. During my tenure as a college advisor, I have been to over a dozen college campus events, attended professional development and networking conferences, and have completed Rice University's College Access Counseling Certificate.
Emily and I live in Pantops and are loving life in Charlottesville. We welcomed our first child, Sawyer, in summer of 2024. We are members at Portico Church, where we lead a small group. In our spare time we enjoy playing board games, discovering new restaurants, playing pickleball, watching baseball or Survivor, and hosting family and friends.
