Students demonstrated what they've learned from video game design the past 2-3 weeks.
Materials: Paper, pencil
Duration: 75-90 minutes
5 minutes - Discussing the different types of video games the students have played and what they've learned from them. This could include problem-solving skills, historical facts, creativity, teamwork, and more.
20-30 minutes - Students to draw their favorite video game character on a piece of paper. They should also write a short description of the character, including the game they're from, their abilities, and how they've learned from this character.
25 Minutes - Using the game "Dots and Boxes" explain how this game is similar to certain video games that require strategic thinking. Have the students play a few rounds of this game, discussing the strategies they used and how they relate to video game strategies.
20 Minutes - Students to write a short story based on a video game they've played. This could be a retelling of the game's plot, a new adventure for the characters, or a backstory for a character. Discuss how storytelling is an important part of many video games.
5-15 Minutes - Students to share their drawings and stories front of class or with teacher. Discuss how video games can be educational and beneficial in developing various skills. Talk about how videogames encourages creativity, critical thinking, and communication skills. Students to connect their personal interests (video games) with educational activities, making learning more engaging and fun.
