«A Different Goal» is Marco Joubert’s first-ever foray into the realm of animation. Its images were created experimenting with Unity, a video game development software. Further elaborating and structuring the piece then took place through extensive sonic explorations. The work draws inspiration from an example given by philosopher David Chalmers, while trying to answer the following question: what would happen if intelligent machines started developing their own goals, different from those of humankind?

Le Dr Yoon crée une nouvelle IA dans un utérus artificiel, la rendant indiscernable des vrais humains, et induit ainsi des émotions chez « Jude ».

Since childhood, Dr. Yoon, who grew up as an orphan, regarded only AI as family and rose to the highest position in AI research. The world dazzles with progress based on the ‘Jude AI’ he developed. However, Dr. Yoon is not satisfied. What he considers to be real AI is an AI with emotions, a true human AI. Therefore, he conducts research alone, without anyone knowing. Dr. Yoon hatches an AI human through an artificial womb, making it indistinguishable from real humans, and induces emotions in the born ‘Jude AI’ in his own unique way.

The film cuts through the administrative paperwork required for the director to live in different countries and explores the ambiguity and fragility of identity in the bureaucratic system, in the cultural context and in today's social industry. Bureaucracies construct individual systemic identities in a series of mechanisms intended to sustain the functioning of society. Underneath the bureaucracy there is a deeper psychological need to commit to ‘sacred’ beliefs or to abandon silly ‘superstitions’. People are shaped by what they create or by what they destroy. In the artificial intelligence industry, which alleges to represent the future, the human subject is the first to disappear, and what comes sooner than the promise of the future is more efficient globalised exploitation.

Le film passe au crible la paperasserie administrative nécessaire au réalisateur pour vivre dans différents pays et explore l'ambiguïté et la fragilité de l'identité dans le système bureaucratique, dans le contexte culturel et dans l'industrie sociale d'aujourd'hui. Les bureaucraties construisent des identités systémiques individuelles dans une série de mécanismes destinés à soutenir le fonctionnement de la société. Sous la bureaucratie se cache un besoin psychologique plus profond de s'engager dans des croyances « sacrées » ou d'abandonner des « superstitions » stupides. Les gens sont façonnés par ce qu'ils créent ou par ce qu'ils détruisent.
