This week in the Green Room, we joyfully explored our much-anticipated Winter theme! It was the perfect time to learn about the cold winter season, and the children were so excited to discover that winter is the final season of the year.
With temperatures dipping into the low 60s, we definitely felt the chilly change in the air. The children were full of curiosity and asked thoughtful questions like, “When will it snow?” and “Will we have a snow day?” We talked together about how we live in Los Angeles, where it usually doesn’t snow, but winter can still bring cooler weather and rainy days just like the rain we experienced during our break.
We also had a wonderful time learning about winter and Polar animals, including polar bears, seals, whales, and penguins. These discussions were truly beautiful and sparked so much interest, all while tying into our winter-themed learning centers.
We are all happy to be back at school. We truly missed the children and you all!
Have a restful and cozy weekend!
Warmly,
Karla & Nancy ❄️
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the children enjoyed creating watercolor winter portraits. They painted their papers using cool, calming tones that tied in beautifully with our book, Goodbye Autumn, Hello Winter by Kenard Pak. This gentle story shows how winter slowly begins to peek in after fall, and it sparked meaningful conversations.
The children began noticing how winter appears all around us at school. Some of our careful little observers pointed out that the big, beautiful tree next to Miss Pam’s office is now bare, just like the trees in our winter portraits!
On Tuesday, the children added details by drawing bare trees and painting tiny white snowflakes onto their artwork, bringing their winter scenes to life. It was a lovely way to combine art, observation, and seasonal learning. ❄️🎨
On Friday, the children created beautiful snow globes using glitter “blue glacier water” and a plastic globe. Each child got to choose an animal of their choosing, and with Teacher Nancy’s help, everyone was able to glue their animal to the top of the jar. It was truly a magical experience and a perfect way to close out our winter week! ❄️✨
On Thursday, with Teacher Nancy, the children learned all about a very special polar animal—polar bears! We talked about how polar bears live in the Arctic Circle, in places such as Canada, Russia, Greenland, and Norway.
The story we read followed a mama polar bear and her two twin cubs as they grow and learn how to endure the cold winter weather of the north. The children enjoyed learning how the mother teaches her cubs important skills to help them survive on their own.
After the story, the children created giant polar bear artworks with Teacher Nancy. These beautiful creations are now proudly displayed on our main classroom board, and they truly brighten the room! 🐻❄️
This week, we began exploring the Community pillar, and we were so excited to dive into our very first lesson! The experience was both informative and full of love for the children.
We started by learning what a community is. It is a group of people who love and care for one another and help each other out. From there, the children were able to identify their own classroom community. The word community was especially meaningful, as the children made connections and recognized one another and their teachers as important members of their school community.
It was truly sweet and special to witness these moments of understanding and connection.
This week at centers, the children explored so many exciting activities! Our sensory play included an Insta-Snow bin, frozen glacier bin, winter-themed play dough for molding and creating, and A-B patterning magnets. These hands-on activities encouraged curiosity, creativity, and early math skills while keeping the children fully engaged and excited to learn.✨
Share Day brought lots of fun and new items! The children were so excited to share all of their toys!

Doggy with a Bandaid - Zenni

Pig Plushy - Noa

Parents, thank you so much for your continued support of our adopted animal at the Wildlife Learning and Conservation Center! We are about halfway to our initial goal of $25, and we are so grateful for your help.
Please continue bringing in aluminum and plastic bottles as we work toward our exciting next goal of $50. The children have been absolutely thrilled by this project and always look forward to sorting the recycling together. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and growing sense of responsibility.
Thank you for partnering with us and supporting both conservation and hands-on learning for the children.
