Picture Day has been postponed Thursday, October 23rd!
The Dodger Dogs had another exciting week in third grade! In ELA, our focus was on action verbs, spelling, and story writing—students brainstormed creative solutions to the problems in their narratives and continued enjoying our class read-aloud, Juana & Lucas. In Math, we wrapped up our Place Value centers and began our new unit on addition and subtraction. In Science, we kicked off our new lesson on fossils! Students began the Fossil Dig activity, using paper to create model fossil digs, identify traits of fossils, and make predictions about what the habitats might have looked like when those organisms were alive. Next week, we’ll continue uncovering clues to see where the Mystery Fossils belong!
This week in ELA, the 4th graders continued reading Holes and reached a major plot twist that had everyone on the edge of their seats! Students also learned about proper nouns and played engaging spelling games to strengthen their writing and word recognition skills.
In Math, we kicked off our Factors and Multiples unit by focusing on multiples. To bring the concept to life, students created colorful paper chains to represent different multiples — a fun and hands-on way to visualize patterns in numbers. Next week, we’ll shift our focus to factors.
In Science, we launched our Earth Science unit with an exploration of volcanoes around the world. Students used maps to plot the locations of major volcanoes, noticing patterns in where eruptions occur and connecting them to tectonic plate boundaries.
In Social Studies, we explored the seven continents by starting the week with a pre-test, playing a few fun continent games, and wrapping up with our continent quiz on Friday! Well done, 4th graders!
This week, we shifted our focus to the Community pillar! Students explored the concept of altruism and what it means to contribute to something bigger than themselves. Through discussions and activities, we highlighted the importance of teamwork, empathy, collaboration, and social responsibility. It’s been inspiring to see students recognize how small acts of kindness can make a big difference in building a strong, connected classroom community.
Then we ended the week with a class favorite morning meeting game, "Colors"!
ATTENTION: 3RD GRADE FAMILIES -
EMERGENCY FOOD STILL NEEDED
We still have not received several bags of emergency food, and we need it as soon as possible. Please be sure to send in your child's emergency food right away so we can have them on hand in case of an emergency.
WEEKLY LEARNING SNAPSHOT
While TCS doesn't assign homework, many parents have requested at-home resources to support skill-building. We're happy to provide materials to help your child practice!
