Hello Red Room Families,
This week in the Red Room, our theme was Family. The children enjoyed exploring the concept of family through stories, discussions, and shared experiences. This week,we read three books that the children enjoyed: One Family by George Shannon, We Belong Together by Todd Parr, and Family Trip by Scholastic.
During group time, we had thoughtful conversations about who is part of our family. We discussed that a family is made up of people who love, care for, and protect us. Some children shared that they live with many family members, while others live with just their parents. We also talked about siblings and what it means to be an only child.
A key takeaway from our discussion was that every family is unique, but all families share one important thing" LOVE." The children also shared that pets are important members of their families, and we learned that many of our friends have pets at home!
This week in art, our young artists dove into a colorful two-part project! First, they painted beautiful blue and green watercolor backgrounds. Then, came the fun part—using oil pastels to decorate cutouts of their homes which were later glued onto their backgrounds. The results are full of color, creativity, and personality! Lastly, they used orange and red colored paint to decorate their family trees.
During center time this week, the Red Roomers eagerly explored a variety of activities that supported their cooperative play and social development. One of their favorite spots continues to be the rug area, where they enjoy playing with cars and trucks. Some children took turns sending their cars down the ramp, while others worked together to drive larger trucks around the rug.
In our sensory bin, colorful rice and small, brightly colored houses sparked curiosity and learning. Children practiced color recognition, matching, and sorting skills, all while engaging in conversations about themselves and their families. These playful moments not only support early learning concepts but also help strengthen language and social skills in meaningful, hands-on ways.
This week in the Red Room, our little movers have been working on their large gross motor skills during outdoor play! Many children are practicing their gross motor skills by riding tricycles—some even giving their friends a lift in wagons! Over at the sandbox, we’ve seen lots of parallel play, with friends digging side by side, exploring textures and teamwork in their own special way.
The Red Roomers had an exciting and engaging week in music class with Ms. Lauren!
On Monday, the children danced joyfully with purple pom-poms to "Life's What You Make It" by Hannah Montana, exploring rhythm and movement. They also participated in a lively scarf activity set to "A Mouse Lives in a Little Hole" by Lynn Kleiner, which encouraged creativity and coordination.
On Wednesday, the students practiced listening and used their motor skills to play the tambourine along with the song "Play and Stop" by Denise Gagne.
It was a week full of music, movement, and fun!
