Dear Families,
What a sensational week we’ve had in the Green Room! ✨
The children have been busy learning all about their incredible bodies and how they use their five senses — touch, smell, sight, hearing, and taste — to explore the world around them.
On Monday, we opened our eyes wide as we learned about sight and noticed all the colors and shapes around us. Tuesday was all about touch — we felt things that were rough, smooth, soft, and even squishy! By Wednesday and Thursday, our noses and taste buds took the spotlight as we discovered the amazing world of smells and flavors.
We also had thoughtful conversations about how every body is different — big bodies, small bodies, tall bodies — and how each one is perfectly unique and special! 💛 Have a beautiful weekend, see you on Tuesday.
With love and kindness,
Karla & Nancy
This week in the Green Room, the children learned all about some important body parts. One that especially captured their attention was the eyes! To explore this, we read Look! A Book About Sight by Dana Meachen Rau. Through this story, the children discovered fascinating details about the different parts of the eye, such as the pupil and the iris. They were especially intrigued to learn that their eyes had so many unique parts, with the iris being the favorite topic of the day.
For our art project, the children took a close look at their own reflections in the mirror and carefully examined their eyes. At the craft table, they began by gluing the white of the eye with white paper, then used oil pastels to color in their irises. Some children noticed the different hues in their eyes and decided to blend two colors together! Next, they added the pupil using black paper and glue, and finished by attaching big, bold eyelashes. The finished eyes turned out absolutely amazing . Each one as unique and beautiful as the child who made it.
This week, we read Bodies Are Cool by Tyler Feder, a joyful celebration of all different human bodies, skin tones, and shapes. The story helped us talk about how every body is special and worthy of love, reminding us that all bodies are good!
After our story, the children created their own “Bodies Are Cool” art pieces using Colors Like Me multicultural paints. They explored different skin tones and body shapes, painting and gluing cutouts to represent a variety of beautiful bodies. Using fine paint brushes gave them a wonderful opportunity to practice fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination while expressing creativity and self-acceptance.
✨Jen Cohan✨
On Tuesday, our wonderful room parent Jen Cohan joined us for a special storytime! She read two delightful books, My Creature Teacher by Laura Leuck and The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt by Riel Nason.
Both stories were perfect as we swing into the cozy month of October. My Creature Teacher was an instant hit! The children loved discovering all the silly creatures and learning to appreciate their own “creature teacher!" The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt shared a beautiful message about acceptance and self-identity, as the little ghost learns to embrace being different from his family of sheet ghosts.
This theme tied in perfectly with our lessons this week about how every body is special and unique.
A big thank you to Jen for sharing such fun and meaningful stories with us! 💛

This week we explored the mindfulness of sight and taste. Using cardboard telescopes, the children had a fun time looking around the classroom and really observing the world around them. This was an activity indroduced to the students reading the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do You See?, by Bill Martin Jr. We also enjoyed a movement activity of head shoulders knees and toes.
On Wednesday, the children enjoyed a sweet and savory tasting activity as we explored different types of flavors. This activity was introduced along with the book Open Wide by Susan Grigsby. Teacher Nancy brought in savory lime-flavored potato chips and sweet graham crackers. We ended our activity by taking a vote to see which flavor the children preferred — and to our surprise, the sweet graham crackers were the big favorite!
This week in Teacher Lauren’s class, we continued to explore musical opposites and learned about a special Latin American artist! The children had so much fun singing a “fast and slow” song while passing a bean bag around in a sitting circle. They also copied Teacher Lauren as she played her slide whistle. The children followed the “high and low” sounds with their fingers moving up and down.
A fun highlight from this week was meeting Teacher Lauren’s puppet friend, Fermata! Fermata made two special guest appearances, and the children absolutely loved singing along with her.
The “Greenie Beanies” were also introduced to a brand-new instrument — the ukulele! With Teacher Lauren’s guidance, the children joyfully strummed the strings and explored its cheerful sound.
To wrap up our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Teacher Lauren introduced us to the legendary artist Celia Cruz. We listened and danced to her vibrant song “La Vida Es Un Carnaval” — and it truly was a week full of rhythm, laughter, and musical discovery!
Enjoy Beautiful Snapshots of this weeks fun outdoors!
This week’s centers focused on our amazing bodies and the five senses! The children explored each of their senses and discovered new and exciting things about their bodies throughout the week.
This week's fun share items were,
Police Cars
Unicorn kitty
Cat puppet
Fox stuffie
Triceratops stuffie
Teacup
The children had such a fun time choosing to share their “eye look” with friends or giving a friend’s toy a gentle touch. They loved chatting about their special share items and were so excited to see what everyone brought!
As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to an end, we had a beautiful Friday morning on the Dream Court. The children were captivated by a special Mexican Aztec dance performance by the Xipe Totec Aztec Dance Group. The children were entranced and very entertained by this beautiful performance. Some of us even got to take pictures with the dancers!
