Hello Red Room Families,
This week in the Red Room, we learned all about apples! Our Red Roomers learned that apples are crunchy fruits that come in many colors, including red, green, and yellow. They grow on trees that can live for many years. Interestingly, apples are about 25% air, which is why they float in water.
Apples are good for you and can be enjoyed in many different ways—sliced, baked in a pie, or made into applesauce. They’re actually part of the rose family, and did you know there are over 2,500 different kinds of apples grown in the United States alone?
We enjoyed reading a few fun books about apples this week! Our first story was Apples for All by Qi Zhi, followed by Apples, Apples by Kathleen Weidner Zoehfeld, and Ten Apples up On Top by Dr. Seuss.
For art this week, we painted paper plates in bright colors like red, green, and yellow. After the paint dried, the children added stems and leaves to turn their plates into colorful apples! They also created a collage on a large white apple cutout, decorating it with red construction paper squares. To finish their artwork, the children glued colorful apples above their heads on their printed self-portraits.
This week, the children collaborated on the rug to design and construct a variety of Lego buildings and towers. At the manipulative tables, they participated in an engaging apple matching game where they practiced identifying and pairing whole and half apples. In addition, the children enjoyed a shape recognition activity, finding the correct shapes to complete their apples with the missing piece in the center. Some students also spent time engaging in imaginative play with jungle animals and wooden blocks.
What a beautiful week for outdoor fun! The children explored every corner of the yard—racing around with friends in exciting running games, laughing together, or just sitting and sharing stories. The sandbox was buzzing with imagination! Some children zoomed down the slide, others peeked through the little windows pretending to be astronauts on a space mission, and many whipped up delicious creations like pretend ice cream and sand muffins. Every day brought new adventures and plenty of smiles!
