This week in the Blue Room we dove into one of the most fun holidays of the year, Halloween!
On Monday, we read It’s Pumpkin Day, Mouse! by Laura Numeroff, and just like in the story, the children decorated their very own pumpkins!
On Tuesday, we explored patterns. The children were so intrigued as they created their own unique designs. Teacher Nancy delighted us with a wonderful story called By the Light of The Halloween Moon by Caroline Stutson, where many silly ghouls and goblins try to get a little girls toe as every creature is outsmarted by the next the story came to a final and fun resolution only to be outsmarted by the little girl herself. Afterwards, the children painted their very own colorful ghouls!
Thursday finally arrived, Picture Day! All the children did a fantastic job, and we even had a little “dress rehearsal” that morning. While waiting for their turn, they helped decorate a spooky garland to hang in our classroom.
We wrapped up the week with Fantastic Friday, painting beautiful watercolor bats to complete our Halloween art week.
Have a great weekend,
Karla & Nancy
As we kicked off the week with Halloween in full swing, we read a sweet story about a funny little mouse who decorates his pumpkins for the holiday. Using lots of fun pre-cut shapes, each child created their very own Jack-o’-lantern suncatcher! Every one of them turned out so special, perfectly unique, just like the child who made it. 🎃
This activity also gave the children a wonderful chance to review their shapes; triangle, square, diamond, circle, oval, and rectangle. It was such a rewarding and exciting project, and we are so proud of how confidently the children recognized and named their shapes. What a fun and festive way to learn! ✨
This week, we also explored A-B patterns, two repeating elements in a fun sequence! The children had the opportunity to choose from bats, ghosts, and pumpkins to create their own patterns. Each child chose something a little different, but in the end, everyone was able to successfully complete their patterns with pride and excitement. 🎃👻✨
Teacher Nancy had a very fun project lined up for the children! To strengthen their fine motor skills, the children painted their ghosts using black and orange paint, and marbles! By tilting their boxes back and forth, they watched the marbles race alongside each other, spreading the paint in exciting patterns. It made for a very fun and unique painting experience that the children absolutely loved! 👻🧡🖤
This week with Teacher Lauren there was plenty to learn and lots of movement fun! The children loved exploring different activities using their scarves, and, by popular demand, we brought back the Mouse Song! We practiced keeping the beat with our rhythm sticks and even discovered what letters we could form with them, some of our favorites were X, T, and L.
We also had fun marching one by one like the marching ants! On Thursday, for Music, Teacher Lauren visited us in the Green Room. She introduced a new favorite, “The Spider Song,” about a tricky little spider who climbs up the children, from the rug all the way to their heads! To wrap up our musical morning, Teacher Lauren read The Spooky Wheels on the Bus by J. Elizabeth Mills. We had such a grand and joyful time!
Enjoy Beautiful Snapshots of this weeks fun outdoors!
This week, the children enjoyed a variety of engaging centers! Our main focus was on shapes, and one of the class favorites was the Geo Boards, where the children used elastic bands to create different shapes and patterns.
The children brought so many fun things from home this week!
Stella & Cookie (dogs)
Unicorn
Elsa the Ballerina Doll
Sarah the Fox
Princess Jasmine
Bom Bomb
Train Engine
Today, Friday the 15th, we were delighted by a special performance from the TCS Rock Band! The children enjoyed an energetic rendition of “Believer” by Imagine Dragons. Afterward, we listened to a beautiful song, “Hola,” performed by Ms. Leidy along with the 3rd and 4th graders. Finally, it was time to celebrate birthdays — our friend Zachary was called up to receive his birthday pencil!
