Hello Red Room Families,
This week in the Red Room, we learned all about fall!
Autumn—often referred to as fall—is one of the four seasons and marks the transition from summer to winter. During this time, the weather turns cooler, tree leaves change color, plants stop making food, animals prepare for the colder months ahead, and the days begin to grow shorter.
We read a few books about fall. The first was Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf by Lois Ehlert, followed by Now It's Fall by Lois Lenski.
Before our art activity, we went on a nature walk to collect leaves for our project. The children then glued their gathered leaves onto construction paper alongside their self-portraits.
We also created marble-painted fall placemats using marbles, paint, and a touch of glitter for some seasonal sparkle!
For centers this week, some friends explored magnetic toys, including magnetic stick wands, a magnetic counting maze, and a magnetic word-building board. We also had fun playing with two different fall-themed sensory bins. The wooden weight seesaw toy was a hit, while some friends chose to sit and enjoy a book on the rug. There was also a fun treehouse filled with mini dinosaurs that sparked lots of imaginative play.
This week during outdoor play, the children had a wonderful time engaging in a variety of activities. They enjoyed pulling wagons, riding trikes with friends, spinning leaves in the strawberry spinner, playing with bubbles, and having fun on the meadow with hula hoops and small SpongeBob balls. They also walked across stepping stones, built with small blocks, and relaxed by lying under the bridge.
Some children cooked pretend meals in our dramatic play outdoor kitchen on the patio.
This week in music, the children danced with scarves to the song "Blowing in the Wind" by Stephanie Leavell. They played drums along with "Slow and Fast" by Hap Palmer and shook maracas to "La Vida es un Carnaval" by Celia Cruz. The children also practiced passing a bean bag to their neighbor, exploring the concepts of moving slowly and quickly.
