This week in phonics, we learned how to read r controlled vowel words with the spellings "or" and "ore". To practice, students did some word building, Walk the Room, and reading practice. As a class, students practiced all the sounds we have learned in first grade, wrote sentences about what they did over the break, and read a story with this week's phonics spelling patterns. Students learned new spelling words and practiced them by writing sentences. Way to go 1st grade!
This week in math, students learned how to add two digit numbers with regrouping. As a challenge, students also started practicing adding three digit numbers with regrouping as well! To practice they completed warm ups, roll solve color, and Think it out Thursday. As a class, students practiced graphing and fact families addition and subtraction. Amazing work, mathematicians!
Students went to Spanish, art, music, PE, and Technology this week. In science, students started a big project about our solar system! We can't wait for you all to see the completed project at Open House!
Heart's Family read us all a silly story and there were lots of laughs! Thank you!
At the end of the week, Teacher Alessandra read the story "" and we learned that learning languages of other cultures helps us make new friends and experiences. Way to go first grade!
