Happy Black History Month!
Lunar New Year Performance Tuesday, February 24th at 9:15 AM
This week in ELA we learned about subject verb agreements. In phonics, we continued learning about magic e! We learned that magic e jumps over a consonant and tells the vowel sounds to say its name (long vowel sound). We learned how to read words that have 'u' and magic e (u-e). To practice, students did some word building, Walk the Room, and reading practice. As a class, students practiced their vowels, blends, digraphs, magic e sounds, spelling, and read a story with u-e sounds. Students learned new spelling words, vocabulary and practiced both by writing sentences. Way to go 1st grade!
This week in math, students learned how to add two digit numbers. Students had centers where they rotated between small group time with Ms. A, number bonds cut & glue, working in their math notebooks, fact families practice, and completing 1-120 chart puzzles. Students also did a roll, solve, color worksheet where they practiced adding two digit numbers. For the 100th day of school, 1st grade counted out 100 paper sprinkles and glued them on their math cupcake! Amazing work, mathematicians!
Students went to Spanish, art, music, technology, and PE this week. In social studies, students learned about Black History Month. Throughout Black History Month, students will read articles and learn about important Black American people and their contributions to history. This week we learned about Basquiat. In art, we colored fire dragons and learned about Lunar New Year.
1st grade earned their third reward of the year -- a science party! Enjoy these pictures of them making slime.
