This week, we learned about possessive plural nouns, learned about "sh" and "wh" digraphs, place value and expanded form, and continued our geography unit. We went to art, music, Spanish, PE, and technology. We are so proud of 1st grade!
This week in ELA we learned about plural possessive nouns and had ELA centers. During centers students rotated between small group time with Ms. A, did a phonics puzzle, worked on their cut & glue stories, and did some word sorting. In phonics we learned about "sh" and "wh" digraphs (when two letters make one sound). To practice, students did some word building, Walk the Room, and reading practice. As a class, students practiced their vowels, blends, & digraph sounds, practiced spelling, and read a story with "sh" and "wh" sounds. Students learned new spelling words, vocabulary and practiced both by writing sentences. Way to go 1st grade!
This week in math we continued learning about place value. We learned how to write the expanded form of a number. To practice, students did a craft creating an expanded form fish bowl! Students also did a Walk the Room where they were shown a number and they had to write its expanded form. In math centers, students rotated between small group time with Ms. A, played checkers, a place value worksheet, practiced more place value in their math notebooks, practiced fact fluency, and did a number bond cut & glue expanded form work sheet. Amazing work, mathematicians!
Students went to Spanish, art, music, technology, and PE this week. In social studies we continued learning about geography. Students labeled and colored a world map and we learned facts about the North American continent. We will learn facts about every continent!
TCS participated in an MLK Day celebration, feast, and Ruby Bridges walk that honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., celebrated courage & justice, and spent time together in community.
