This week during ELA, we started isolating those tricky middle sounds in CVC words. In our journals, we wrote about what new things we would like in our lives. This week in math, we practiced positional words like under, behind, near, far, on top, between, and over, and more! We practiced this skill by working in our thinkpads, a butterfly booklet, and drawing monster in different positions!

For science this week, we learned about Mae Jemison! In honor of Black History Month, we discussed her contributions to NASA and how she became the first African American woman to travel to space.
For our activity, students created a name rocket. They used construction paper to write each letter of their names and cut out the different parts of a rocket to assemble it together.
This week in social studies we learned about
Lunar New Year. We explored the ledgend of the Chinese zodiac and found out what animal year we were born in. Turns out, most of us were born in the year of the pig or the rat. To celebrate the year of the horse, we made chinese lanterns. A special thank you to Phoenix's parents for providing us with dumplings to sample to celebrate!
We loved seeing everyone for community reading today. :)
We hope you have a Happy Valentine's Day with your loved ones! <3
