OUTDOOR PLAY, YAY!!
INDOOR LEARNING AND PLAY CENTERS
This Week, the Yellow Roomers participated in loads of different activities at our indoor learning and play centers.
Friends took turns decorating our final letter of the week, Z, which completed our classroom alphabet display that we have been working on all year!
Pirate ships and colorful building blocks were popular on our rug area. Some of our friends chose to participate in free-draw, as well as completing multi-piece puzzles, and making unique creations with a variety of manipulatives. The kids also played with a magnet set where they created a variety of scenes such as a farm, playground, and even a school as well as creating mini dinosaur play scenarios with natural wood blocks.
LANGUAGE ARTS CENTER
In celebration of AAPI Heritage Month, the Yellow Roomers were introduced to the book, A Garden in my Hands, written by Meera Sriram and beautifully illustrated by Sandhya Prabhat, which tells the story of a mother and daughter bonding over the application of henna before a wedding, blending traditional art with family heritage and storytelling.
The children created henna-inspired art work as they chose from a variety of hands which best matched their skin color, next, they selected from several templates of henna designs. Friends focused as they traced the hand and then decorated it with a variety of colors. Once the template was removed, it revealed their beautiful design underneath!
P.E. with COACH JEREMY
This week during P.E. class, Coach Jeremy continued to review fun games that the children learned throughout the year! The Yellow Roomers enjoyed playing a few class favorites, Coin Flip! and What Time is it Mr. Fox?
HERE ARE JUST A FEW OF THE BOOKS WE READ THIS WEEK:
CRAYON-MAKING ART PROJECT
On Wednesday, Teacher Sarah read the book, The Crayon Man :The True Story of the Invention of Crayola Crayons by Natascha Biebow. This picture book details the true story of how Edwin Binney, inveted Crayola crayons, with his partner C. Harold Smith and how they created an affordable, safe, and colorful drawing medium for children, who previously used expensive, breakable artist crayons or dull chalk. It details Binney's experimentation with wax and pigments to develop the iconic, non-toxic crayons, making color accessible to children everywhere.
On Thursday, Teacher Sofia led the children in a crayon-making activity. Friends were also shown an educational video on how crayons are made. Each child then selected several crayons in the colors of their choice, which they peeled and broke into small pieces. Next, they filled in alphabet molds with their broken crayons. Once they were baked in the oven, the colors merged to create unique letter-shaped crayons!
GUEST LIBRARY READER:
CHRIS ALLEN
One of this week's guest library reader was Maverick's daddy, Chris. He enthusiastically read two of Maverick's favorite books. The first book was a definite crowd pleaser, Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin. He also read, We're Going on an Egg Hunt by Laura Hughes. This counting, lift- the -flap book followed the same formula as the preschool favorite, We're Going on a Bear Hunt! Except at the end of this book, the bunnies were running away from a wolf!
Thanks so much Chris for sharing these fun stories with the Yellow Roomers!
LEARNING CIRCLE TIME
During this week's group time on the rug, friends used their alphabet sounding skills which they practice daily, as they learned about CVC (consonant vowel consonant) words. Friends sounded out each letter and combined them to create three letter words. We began with the letter "A" as our vowel and continued to create more words with all of the vowels! The children did a fantastic job as they took turns going through the alphabet and creating many familiar three letter words and even a few four letter words!
MUSIC CLASS
This Week, friends continued to practice their special graduation song. They can't wait to perform during the ceremony for all of their families and friends!
Afterwards, the children chose from a variety of instruments as they played along with Teacher Lauren's prompts!
This week, the Yellow Roomers were treated to a 2nd Guest Library Reader. On Friday, Nessa's daddy, Mehran Ebrahimi along with her brother, Cye stopped by to share a few of her favorite books with her classmates!
The children learned about famous architect Zaha Hadid and singer/musician Nina Simone, as Mehran read their short bios in the anthology series, Bedtime Stories for Rebel Girls by Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo.
Friends loved the humorous story, Buffalo Fluffalo by Bess Kalb, about a grumpy buffalo who learns about self-acceptance.
And lastly, Mehran shared All the World by Liz Garton Scanlon. This sweet little book was a poetic celebration highlighting the unity and wonder of the world, and emphasizing that all things, big and small, are connected and part of a larger whole.
Thank you so much Mehran for closing out the year of wonderful guest library readers with these delightful books!
Nessa is embracing her role as Big Sister, as her family recently welcomed a baby boy! Nessa beamed with pride as she shared pictures of her newborn brother with her friends and teachers on her special camera!
FRIDAY 15 Summer Birthdays!!
The Yellow Roomers joined their TCS Community for our Final Friday 15 of the school year! TCS Birthday pencils were handed out to ALL of the students and teachers with Summer Birthdays! Friends enjoyed dancing and celebrating with their fellow TCS Eagles!
