Hello Red Room Families,
This week in the Red Room, we learned all about macaws! 🦜
Macaws are the largest and most colorful parrots in the world. They live in the rainforests of Central and South America, high up in the treetops. These amazing birds are known for their extremely strong beaks, which can crack open hard nuts with ease! They also have long, beautiful tails and love to make lots of noise. Macaws are very social and often travel together in flocks.
Did you know that many species of macaws can live for 50+ years? That’s a long time! They are also incredibly intelligent birds.
We read a book called Animals of The Rain Forest Macaws by Karen Latchana and I See Animals Parrot by August Hoeft.
Learning about macaws helped prepare the children for our exciting field trip to The Wildlife Learning Center, where they got to see real macaws up close! The best part? The class raised money through recycling to support the macaws they met. What an amazing way to learn and give back!
This week for art, the children painted their very own macaws! 🎨🦜
They used bright blue and yellow paint-and discovered that when they mixed the two together, it turned green! What a colorful surprise!
For our second art activity, the kids decorated paper plates shaped like macaws. They used glue, colorful feathers, and googly eyes to bring their beautiful birds to life. The classroom was bursting with creativity and color!
This week in centers, the children had a blast exploring animals from all around the world—both on land and in the water! 🌎🐘🐠
They played with sea creatures and ships, sailing off on exciting ocean adventures. They also enjoyed our happy magnetic birds, mixing and matching different heads and bodies to create their own silly combinations! Farm animals were busy on the pretend farm, too.
The fun continued in our sensory bin, where little hands explored and discovered new textures. At the kitchen center, friends became engaged as they cooked up all kinds of delicious pretend meals together.
We also had some very sweet, huggable moments this week, with friends sharing smiles and warm hugs throughout the day. What a joyful week in centers!
It was finally our fun field trip day at the Wildlife Learning Center!
We would like to thank all of our families and friends for joining us and making the day so special. We had a wonderful time exploring alongside our Yellow Room friends!
The children had so much fun discovering amazing animals with their families and classmates. Everywhere you looked, there were big smiles, wide eyes, and lots of excitement. It was truly a day full of joy and unforgettable memories!
A few fun animals we spotted at the Wildlife Learning Center were a North American porcupine, a ring-tailed lemur, a bobcat, a common marmoset, some playful monkeys, a common raven, a miner’s cat, an alligator, a southern two-toed sloth, and a bright, colorful macaw—plus a few more amazing creatures! It was like going on a mini wildlife adventure! 🐒🦥🦜🦔
This week in music class,Teacher Brian had the kids dancing and playing the tambourine! 🎶
The room was filled with rhythm, laughter, and lots of shaking, tapping, and jingling. Everyone had a turn to move to the beat and make some joyful noise.
We would like to send a very special thank you to Ryan’s mom, Miss Jamie, for coming in to read to the Red Roomers! She shared three wonderful and sweet books with us. One was There’s a Dragon in Your Book by Tom Fletcher, Pete the Cat and the Missing Cupcakes by James Dean and Kimberly Dean, and The Digger and the Flower by Joseph Kuefler.
We would like to send a very special thank you to Scarlett's family for coming in to celebrate Scarlett‘s birthday with the Red Roomers! Thank you for bringing in the delisious cupcakes!
