This week during ELA, we practiced our letters of the week Q, U and J, had reading groups, and wrote about holiday traditions in our journals! In Math, we practiced making teen numbers using groups of ten. We practiced this skill by building with blocks, creating a winter craft, and making groups of ten using different manipulatives.

For science this week, our students made their own snow! We began by learning how real snow is formed. We discussed how clouds are made of water vapor and how, when the temperature drops low enough, the water freezes into tiny crystals that become snowflakes.
For our hands-on activity, students created snow using baking soda and shaving cream. They mixed the ingredients with their hands and enjoyed exploring the texture of their homemade snow.
In Social Studies we learned all about Hanukkah, The Festival of Lights. We explored the history of the holiday and some of the Hanukkah traditions like lighting the menorah. To celebrate, we made classic macaroni art menorahs to decorate our classroom.
During Challenge Time, we decorated stockings in celebration of Christmas. There may be a surprise in them before we leave for Winter Break!
For those who have not yet done so, please bring in your child’s supplies, emergency kit, and extra clothes.
