Hello Red Room Families,
This week in the Red Room, we explored winter and snow and discovered just how fascinating this season can be. Winter is the coldest time of year and brings chilly temperatures along with longer nights, as the Earth tilts away from the Sun. We learned that snow is made of tiny ice crystals, and no two snowflakes are exactly the same! Although snow looks white as it covers the ground, it is actually clear—its bright appearance comes from light reflecting off the ice.
We read a few books the first was entitled,The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats, Snow by Roy Mckie and P.D. Eastman, and Sally's Snow Day by Andrew Larsen and Dawn Lo. All of these books are children’s stories that celebrate the joy and wonder of a snowy day through simple, everyday adventures. They focus on young characters exploring winter by playing, walking, and discovering their surroundings, emphasizing curiosity, sensory experiences, and the beauty of ordinary moments. These books highlight childhood independence, imagination, and the simple pleasures of winter.
For art this week, the children created snowflake collages using snowflake foam stickers, blue glitter, and snowflake felt. They also made beautiful snow globes using construction paper cutouts. The children used white paint and stamps to create a snowy effect, then added their self-portraits to complete each piece.
At centers this week, the children had a great time exploring a variety of winter-themed activities. They enjoyed playing with our snow which was baking soda and shaving cream that the kids mixed together, and white play-dough mixed with blue glitter, which made it extra fun and sparkly. The children also loved using the small tabletop train track and exploring our winter sensory bin, which was filled with large winter animals and iceberg puzzle pieces.
The children had so much fun playing outdoors this week! They loved running through the meadow, pretending to fall, laughing, and playing with friends. The wind blowing through their hair on the play structure added to the excitement. Some friends enjoyed playing with people figures and the dollhouse at a table in the preschool yard, while others had a great time selling pretend food at the playhouse. It was a week full of smiles, imagination, and outdoor fun!
This week in music class, the Red Room teachers had fun being the music teachers for the Red Roomers! We enjoyed playing the drums, dancing with colorful scarves, and ending with a fun freeze dance that had everyone laughing and moving. It was a joyful time!
This week, we celebrated Ramy's Birthday, we want to thank Susan for coming in the Red Room to celebrate Ramy's Birthday. Thank you for bringing in the cute little cupcakes!
