Hello Red Room Families,
This week in the Red Room, we started getting ready for Night School! Our theme is camping. We talked about what people might bring with them on a camping trip, and then we asked each child what they would pack. Their answers were pretty amazing! Some said, “I would bring my unicorn stuffy,” or “I would bring my bear stuffy.” Others were very prepared: “I would bring everything!” We also heard, “I would bring a flashlight,” and one camper even decided to bring their cat!
In the Red Room, there are no wrong answers—especially when imagination is involved!
We read a few books the first was Billy's Camping Trip by Hannah Ko, Mole goes camping by Cecilia Smith and Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown. We read some fun and cozy books together! First, we read Billy’s Camping Trip by Hannah Ko, then Mole Goes Camping by Cecilia Smith, and finally Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown.
Things these books have in common:
They are all perfect for preschoolers with simple words and gentle stories.
The stories are about familiar experiences, like going camping and getting ready for bed.
For art this week, the children created their own campfire masterpieces! They used printed logs, foil paper as a stamp, and red and yellow paint to make bright, flickering fire flames. The children also made their very own camping tents and added a self-portrait inside each one, as well as lantern sun catchers to which they added tissue paper. It was so much fun watching their creativity light up the room!
At centers this week, the children explored a variety of hands-on activities that supported early learning and social development. They practiced color sorting using our colored boxes and bright sock manipulative, strengthening their cognitive skills and fine-motor coordination.
Other children gathered around our pretend campfire to “make” s’mores, engaging in dramatic play and using their imaginations. At the manipulative tables, children played alongside friends with castles and people figures, Sketch tablet and pegboards. This was a great example of parallel play, as children shared the space and materials while exploring independently.
The room was full of joyful exploration, creativity, and meaningful play!
Outdoor play this week was fun—as it always is when it’s not raining! The children enjoyed walking up and down the steps on the play structure with friends, zooming down the slide, and taking turns driving the pretend ship. Some friends challenged themselves on the parallel bars, and everyone had the chance to join the Blue Room on the meadow to play pass-the-ball while sitting on the turf. It was a joyful time filled with movement, laughter, and fresh air!
This week Music class was full of fun! The children listened to The song is “Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka” by Johann Strauss II.The performance shown is by the Johann Strauss Orchestra Wiesbaden, conducted by Herbert Siebert while dancing with scarves. We sang the “Say Hello There” song, tapped to the beat with “Listen, Listen, Here I Come,” took turns when someone got the drum, and moved along to the Animal Carnival song. There was lots of dancing, listening, and joyful music-making! 🎶🧣
