This week in the Green Room, we were so excited to finally experience Night School! The children had been looking forward to this special evening, and it did not disappoint.
The night began out on the yard with lots of fun as we searched for nighttime animals. The children explored and spotted Luna moths, Atlas moths, and hawk moths, along with bats, raccoons, foxes, skunks, and possums.
We then moved into our evening group time, where Teacher Nancy read a very special nighttime story all about the wonders of the night. The children were absolutely thrilled! Even though our evening was a bit topsy-turvy, it was filled with laughter, excitement, and so much joy.
Afterward, we transitioned into our nighttime centers, which glowed in the dark. The children were amazed as their desert creations came to life, transforming our dark room into a glowing oasis. With fluorescent lighting and glow-in-the-dark play dough, the nighttime room truly sparkled with creativity.
Dinner time followed, featuring warm and delicious s’mores, always a favorite! Outside playtime on the Meadow was another highlight, where the children had a blast playing with glow-in-the-dark inflatable balls.
The night came to a sweet close as we bid adieu with a Night School classic, The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn. It truly was a special night.
Warmly,
Karla & Nancy
During outside play, we had a terrific time searching for nighttime animals hidden around the preschool play yard! The children were so excited to spot each animal using their flashlights, eagerly pointing out their discoveries along the way.
Later in the evening, after dinnertime, the children headed out to the meadow for some extra fun. They loved frolicking with glow-in-the-dark beach balls, which truly became a highlight of the night! 🌙✨
All centers brought out durring night school were meant to glow in the dark. Teacher Nancy directed a center where the children made their very own glow in the dark bracelets with special beads.
Durring outside playtime the children enjoyed a glow in the dark tattoo parlor! Unicorns and triceratops were the main picks!
At dinner time everyone had their favorite, Pizza! Followed by smiling faces and delicious warm smores!
The Dark Room is such an important and essential part of Night School. All of the art the children have been creating for weeks is proudly displayed here. We have come a long way from our giant saguaro cactus and its beautiful blooms, which now glow under the fluorescent lighting.
Under the lights, you can also find all the animals and insects we’ve been learning about, including snakes, owls, bats, worms, and moths. This week, we explored the water cycle, and the children even created storm clouds complete with fluorescent lightning bolts. The bats were especially excited to have their own glow light inside a special bat cave!
The Dark Room was truly created by the children, and it turned out absolutely beautiful. 🌙✨
During evening group time, we gathered together as a classroom to enjoy some favorite classic stories. Teacher Nancy read The Night Pirates by Peter Harris, a fun and playful rhyming story about a young boy and a crew of girl pirates who cleverly scare off a group of grown-up pirates.
Next, we read The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn, a story that truly warmed the children’s hearts. The book follows the heartfelt journey of a little raccoon named Chester, who experiences first-day-of-school jitters as he heads off to school with the other nocturnal animals. This story created a very tender moment in our classroom, as friends shared that they, too, missed their mommies and daddies while attending our very own Night School.
