Dear Green Room Families,
“All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.” – Charles M. Schulz
This week, our theme was love, the heart and Valentine’s Day. We learned that Valentine’s Day is an annual holiday held on February 14th, dedicated to expressing love, affection and friendship through cards, flowers, and treats. Valentine’s Day has evolved into a global, secular celebration of romantic, platonic, and familial love.
On Monday, Teacher Karla read two cute, fun stories: The Great Valentine’s Day Surprise by Suzy-Jane Tanner, in which everyone gets a Valentine’s Day card and they have to guess who sent it, and Dinosaur Valentine by Liza Donnelly, about Rex and his trusty dog, Bones, who receive an invitation to a party they will never forget. It's a Valentine's Day party … given by dinosaurs.
The class made beautiful, bright heart-shaped sun catchers to decorate the windows and make our classroom festive. The children also made beautiful Valentine’s Day Love Bug cards for their parents with Teacher Karla. They had their silhouette portraits taken for memorable Valentine’s Day keepsakes.
After reading Nancy Carlson’s Henry and the Valentine Surprise, the class worked on prepping their Valentine's Day bags and placemats. We read Palabras Con Corazon/ Words with Heart by Kate Jane Neal about the power of our words and how we can make someone’s heart rejoice with happiness and laughter. We thought of our own words to put on little hearts, using glue and glitter. We will put these words with hearts up in our classroom!
In Music class, we sang and danced with Teacher Brian. The class started with the very fun “Name Song”, before learning “The Green Grass Grows All Around.” Teacher Brian gave the children different colored scarves that represented the different countries in the Olympics and played John Williams’ iconic Olympic theme song. The children then practiced learning their Spring Sing song, before singing the “Goodbye Song.”
On Fun Friday, we had our Friday 15. We also celebrated Valentine’s Day, wearing our bright reds, whites and pinks and having a festive card exchange and party. We had all sorts of delicious snacks and treats and lots of love! It was an inspiring week filled with fun, hearts, kind words, curiosity, compassion, hugs and love.
We wish everyone a wonderful love filled Valentine's Day weekend.
With Love & Chocolate,
Nancy & Karla 💕
This week during centers, the children built, made red play dough cookies, did math using Valentine's colors unifex cubes and enjoyed different dramatic play scenarios.
This week we had some cold rainy and sunny days during outdoor play, the children enjoyed building, playing games of chase, working on the parallel bars and playing in the sandbox! The class enjoyed using their gross motor skills, and the nice LA weather changes and all.
Thank you, families, for your continued support! Thanks to all of our recycling efforts, we earned $10 this week, bringing our total to $45. We are now just $5 away from reaching our $50 goal!
Please continue bringing in soda cans and water bottles (only) so we can reach our goal together very soon. Next week will be our last week of collection. The children have been so excited to participate and track our progress.

This week our Library guest reader was Emily Bloom's mom Zoe! Zoe read two stories See You Later Alligator by Sally Hopgood and Twinkle by Katherine Holabird. Our class enjoyed the fun rhyming words from the first story and the beautiful illustrations from the second book. We thank Zoe for coming in and reading to our students.
If you would like to come in and read... Please click on the image of the books to sign up to be a guest reader in our class!
