Hello Red Room Families,
This week in the Red Room, we learned about the spring season and all that it brings. Spring is a time of renewal, when the weather warms, the days grow longer, and nature awakens from winter.
We explored two wonderful books about plants and growth. The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle follows a small seed’s journey through the seasons, showing how it grows into a beautiful flower despite many challenges along the way. The story helps children learn about the plant life cycle while also teaching patience and perseverance. We also read Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert, which introduces a vibrant garden filled with flowers of every color. This book teaches children about different types of flowers, how they are planted, and how gardens grow and change over time, while also reinforcing color recognition in a fun and engaging way.
We read Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert. We then used watercolors and coffee filters to create beautiful rainbow flowers. The children used pipettes (droppers) to pick up the watercolor, helping them practice their pincer grasp.
We read the book A Tiny Seed, and then the children painted and created their own large flower using a variety of tools, such as paintbrushes and sponge rollers. They were inspired by the big, bright orange flower on the cover of the book.
During center time this week, the Red Roomers had a wonderful time exploring a variety of centers. They engaged in cooperative play, working together to build their own garden and used their imaginations while playing with dollhouses. They also enjoyed using Magna-Tiles to build big towers and had fun creating pretend sushi orders for their friends.
The Red Room students had a wonderful time exploring the preschool yard. There was plenty of laughter and collaboration throughout the playtime. Some children enjoyed riding tricycles, while others engaged in creative play in the sandbox and danced to music.
The Red Room students were excited to visit Mr. Brian in the music room on Wednesday. During the session, they rehearsed two songs, A Spoonful of Sugar and Remember Me. The visit concluded with an engaging movement activity that the students thoroughly enjoyed.
We would like to send a very special thank you to Bodhi's mom, Monica, for coming in to read to the Red Roomers! She shared two wonderful books with us. One was Cars And Trucks And Things That Go by Richard Scarry's and Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall.
