FRIDAY, 24 OCTOBER 2025
A nativity celebrated; a concert given; games of spheres and baskets, of prolate spheroids and feet; worlds created; stories continued; mathematicals, grammaticals, emphatical requests for sabbaticals away from the pragmatical gaze of the sun; and of course picture day -- we had it all this week, our first full one in about a month. Amazing we, fantastic us, learning and performing on tests. We did it.
Important Dates and Reminders:
Dia de Los Muertos celebration 30 October @09:15am
Noon dismissal on 31 October for Halloween
Please see school-wide emails regarding requirements for costumes + opportunities to volunteer
Native American History Assembly @9:15am on Friday, 7 November
Be well, y'all!
This week ELA: Read through chapter 6 of "Fablehaven"; began first draft of fantasy story.
In social studies we acquainted ourselves with seven themes through which to view US history:
Patterns of Population;
Uses and Abuses of Power;
Worlds of Exchange;
Haves and Have-nots;
Expressing Identity;
Science, Technology, and the Environment;
and Spiritual Life and Moral Codes.
Students will return to these concepts throughout the year as we learn about US history, from the colonial era to the turn of the twentieth century.
Next week ELA: Complete chapters 5-8 "Fablehaven"; continue fantasy story writing; grammar (appositives, commas).
This week Math: Continued whole number computation.
In science, the topic of solar and lunar eclipses arose during discussion on Wednesday. On Friday, Fox observed an interesting phenomenon that involved some similar properties to eclipses. Plus it looked cool! Scientific learning is amazing and particularly so when naturally encountered.
Next week Math: Continue whole number computation.
Our Community Pillar this week took us to celebrating each other as amazing humans, subjects worthy of any photography studio.
In introducing our service learning project this year -- ocean conservancy via Heal the Bay aquarium -- we discussed what it means to be stewards of the environment and how to best conserve our community.
We've got rock stars in our midst! We had a wonderful performance by our 5th grade and middle school rock band at Friday 15. Great job Dynver, Fox, Harlow, Izzy, and Samira!
Happy birthday to Penelope!
Also, a return to one of Ryan's favorite pastimes: extreme close-up cameo shots. Did we think they'd disappeared? No such luck; abated merely.
